Spot-on ways to work the trend for dots and spots
With their playful good looks and zany feel, we have to admit we have an, um, soft spot for spots. And we’re not the only ones – trend-wise they couldn’t be bigger, with everything from tiny circles to giant spots pitching up on everything from armchairs to benches.
Here are a few ideas to help you dip your toe in the look. But be warned, you might just find yourself shelling out on a colour-coordinating Dalmatian…
1 Blue belle
The sprinkling of spots on this cool blue wallpaper gives the hall a subtle shot of summer. The Mediterranean feel is enhanced by the complementary shades of blue in the curtain, vase and objet teamed with hits of blazing white.
2 Classic black and white
Discreet black and white spots are a foolproof way to inject interest into your walls, but a bit of colour will stop the look from appearing stuffy and all consuming. Here, the formal dining zone is smartly dressed in a classic Dalmatian-style wallpaper, while the shots of purple and pink distract the eye and jazz things up a treat.
3 In the navy
Only the brave would go for a carpet full of spots – whoa, just a mere glance and they seem to jump out at you and dance before your very eyes! But in a subtle navy and white colourway and kept to a hallway, the look is easy to pull off, especially when, as seen here, the stairs and woodwork are kept plain white, thus helping to ground the craziness.
4 Tribal style
Proof if ever you needed it that mixing patterns does work, especially in a low-key way, the chic cushions and pouffes help this space rock an on-trend tribal vibe.
6 Crazy pattern mash-up
Despite being mixed up with stripes, chevrons and a whole lot of colour, this profusion of spots is a winner because, apart from a couple of cushions, the pattern is monochrome. This is one seriously fun way to go all-out dotty and we’re loving the contrasting spots on the duvet and the giant polkas on the cushion.
7 Moody monochrome
This is a pretty understated way to tap into the trend, but the plush spotty rug nods to it to perfection and we love how it’s been cleverly tied in with the Sixties shot of the ever-chic, polka-dot clad The Shrimp…
