The homespun revival, make do and mend and upcycling trends have revived interest in the cottage craft of patchwork and piecing together vintage and new fabrics to create lived-in, authentic and honest country-style rooms.
Layer multicoloured patchwork throws, cushions and soft furnishings to bring areas of punchy colour into a room. For curtains, a border works well on a simple gingham. Its a good idea to keep the rest of the décor simple, for example painted walls and painted floorboards in a chalky white. However, patterned wallpapers and carpets can also work well with patchwork, creating a busier, homely feel.
