The owners have created a welcoming feel in the living room by adding English oak floorboards, wooden beams and an inglenook fireplace.

Sofas in neutral tones add to the relaxed look. The owner upycled an old footstool by having it re-covered in a gingham fabric.

The owners created a snug between the living room and the kitchen. The red sofa adds a pop of colour to the otherwise muted tones.

The wooden beam above the doorway between the snug and kitchen was added when the extension was built. A small area in the corner of the kitchen has been turned into a work space.

The owners painted the existing cabinets and added new worktops and wall tiles. The open shelves are made from painted pews and the wrought-iron brackets were found at a reclamation yard.

Although the cottage is small, it has a utility room complete with a butler's sink. The cabinets were made by a local carpenter.

The high ceiling and oak beams give the main bedroom country-style character. The owner used a soft grey shade on the walls to help create a peaceful sanctuary.

The owner's daughter chose the classic blue shade for the walls. A Shaker-style shelf with pegs provides a pretty display space. The white iron bed adds a traditional touch to the room.
