With 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 toilet rooms, a kitchen-cum-breakfast room and a study, this 40 foot open-plan living and dining room has become the central point of the house, both literally and metaphorically.

The sofa was from Poltrona Frau, the dining chairs from SCP and dining table from Case.

Exposed brick, modern wooden beams, an open fireplace, designer furniture in warm leather and plush soft furnishings, such as the deep-pile carpet, throw and cushions, amalgamate to produce a modern retro vibe that oozes cosy living.

The sideboard is by Jasper Morrison, and armchair by Russel Pinch.

A highly sociable space, this corner of the open-plan living area comprises a dining table and chairs as well as breakfast bar and stools. The muted colours and warm wood lend a peaceful atmosphere, while the sleek shapes and clean lines bring modernism to the retro look.

The pendant light is by George Nelson and the lamps on the worktop were from Flos.

The stunning, solid-mahogany, 1970s Poggenpohl kitchen is a design classic, complete with vintage floral green tiles for a blast from the past. The sense of scale here is emphasised by the lines running along the kitchen cabinets.

Visit Poggenpohl to find a kitchen like this, and Tile Heaven for similar floral tiles.

The master bedroom has its original hessian-and-silk wallpaper above the bed. The extra long buttoned leather headboard in a rich brown shade highlights the retro vibe running through the house.

Try E W Moore for vintage wallpaper, and Frances Hunt for a leather headboard.

Rosewood fitted furniture stands the test of time and provides a great storage solution in a small bedroom. Flowing through to the next room, this bedroom remains open and light.

The bathroom resembles the set of Boogie Nights - tan tiles, shag-pile carpet that reaches up to the edge of the tub, plus gold swan taps. A vanity console shaped like a grand piano tops off the kitsch look.

Visit The Stone and Ceramic Warehouse to find similar tiles.
