Be inspired by this pared back Victorian home

Take a room-by-room tour around beautiful Homes & Gardens readers' homes. This week we look inside a modern Victorian home for stunning decorating inspiration.

The owners have restored this detatched villa in Surrey into an elegant family home. A restrained colour scheme and streamlined surfaces complete the sophisticated look.

The low furniture and pale shades emphasise the scale of the panelled fireplace, which frames the seating area.

The armchairs are vintage Laura Ashley.

3/6 Kitchen

The white-tiled floor is the sort you would find in an airport, and is consequently very tough and easy to clean.

The kitchen cabinetry was designed and installed by Harvey Jones Kitchens

4/6 Dining room

The kitchen-diner features a skylight that helps make the eating area below feel bright and airy all year round.

The bow chairs are by Philippe Starck at Viaduct.

5/6 Bedroom

The original two-bedroom layout on the top floor has been opened up to create an open-plan bedroom, sitting area, dressing room and bathroom.

The wallpaper is from Cole & Son.

6/6 Children’s room

White painted furniture and walls keep the children's rooms in tune with the rest of the house, while stripped wood has proved a practical choice for the flooring.

The antique wooden sleigh bed is from Pavilion.
