Property A 150-year-old, two-storey sandstone cottage in Clachan, Ayrshire, Scotland, with seven rooms, including an upstairs bedroom, studio and box room; downstairs a bedroom, living room with small kitchen leading off it and bathroom.
The tactile deerskins, along with the coir carpets and seagrass rugs, add to the feeling of comfort and cosiness.
To keep the small kitchen from feeling gloomy, the walls and units were painted white. The open shelves also create a sense of space, and keep the retro feeling going. Quirky old-fashioned items add character, in keeping with the rest of the house.
For a romantic feel that’s cool and uncluttered, white bedlinen is used. The recessed window frames the bed and acts as a headboard. There’s a window directly opposite the bed that looks out over the pastoral scenes and makes the room seem bigger.
