This living room marries modern lines with cosy opulence. Laura wanted the shell of the room to have a contemporary vibe, so she lowered the ceiling to hide the old rosette and to allow for spotlights.

A wall was knocked down to create a large open-plan living/dining room, that's perfect for the kids to do their homework, as well as for entertaining. White walls allow the statement furniture pieces and Morroccan-inspired accessories to take centre stage. A large black chandelier is a great way of defining the dining area in an open-plan space.

White glossy wall tiles and stainless-steel units create an industrial chic look in this kitchen, while ample storage means it remains a practical, working kitchen - perfect for a self-confessed domestic goddess. Kitchen utensils are kept out of the way on hanging racks, while large items of cookware are stored on high shelves. The island unit creates an open feel, allowing the chef to chat to guests in the dining room.

Sections of the wall between the hallway and the living room have been replaced with glass bricks to allow the limited light to flow better. It helps to illuminate the little office and allows dark paint to be used without the space looking too gloomy.
