The textured slate floor, along with the hardwood worktops, adds richness to the white and stainless-steel scheme in this kitchen. The skylights allow light to flood into the room, minimising the closed-off effect from the partition wall.

Glass shelves provide a modern place to store and display an alcohol collection ready for a party. Recessed lighting, hidden in boxy shelving units and under the sink, mean that with a flick of a switch, the mood of the kitchen can be changed from bright and functional, to mellow and cool.

3/10 Dining room

This round table, perfect for entertaining, is a great centrepiece for the rest of the modern design in this dining room. The red is a stark contrast to the black and white, its impact strengthened by repetition of the colour in the poster.

4/10 Living room

In the main living space, frosted glass wall panels are perfect cover-ups for shelves and storage, as well as hiding the flue for the open fire. The wood veneer echoes the teak used in the kitchen. A fuchsia coffee table, which was originally a footstool, but has been transformed with toughened glass, lifts the dark wood for a shot of modern colour.

5/10 Living room sofa

A capacious creamy sofa is bought to life with mismatched modern cushions. A black string curtain seperates the open-plan living room from the dining room without shutting out light, allowing both spaces to appear bigger.

Flexform sells cream sofas.

6/10 Hallway

To create a designated hallway space, where the stairs are kept separate from the rest of the open-plan living area, partition walls have been erected around the staircase. Painted matt black and teamed with an Oriental-style sideboard, this structure doesn't fail to make an impact.

7/10 Bedroom storage

This glass walkway, leading from the main bedroom to the bathroom, allows light to flow through the small space. The green glass is also a good contrast for the dark wood, bringing a modern feel to what could be a traditional space.

8/10 Bathroom

A wide shelf in front of the bath, for candles, flowers and toiletries, adds to the luxurious feeling in this bathroom. A mirrored wall doubles the sense of light and space, while the neutral stone, continued from the floor onto the bath, creates a seamless, modern look.

9/10 Bathroom shower

Lined in slate tiles, this steam room has an enveloping feel with a modern appearance. A glass roof allows for stargazing while relaxing in the heat. A frosted panel acts as a shower screen for privacy.
