Easy sweet festive recipes ready in 40 mins

Try some of our favourite Christmas recipes for those with a sweet tooth. And the best bit, they'll be ready in no time!

The weeks are flying by to Christmas and with time being so precious, we’ve found these fab festive recipes to wow your guests, all of which can be prepared in 40 mins. Even if you’re a reluctant cook, with our handy tips you can make some showstopping treats that will have people coming back for more.

Trifle

Takes 45 min + chilling

You will need
600ml vanilla custard 24 sponge fingers 10tbsp muscat dessert wine 450g raspberries 300ml double cream 12 pink macaroons

1. Soak the sponge fingers in the dessert wine until just soft, then place half in the bottom of a glass trifle dish. Top with 175g raspberries and then the custard.

2. Cover with the rest of the sponge fingers and top with 175g raspberries. Whip the cream to soft peaks and spread over the top. Chill for 2 hours to set.

3. To serve, put the pink macaroons around the top edge and pileup the remaining raspberries in the middle.

Sugar plum fruity glitter jellies

Takes 15 mins Serves 12

You will need
200ml sugar plum liqueur (or other festive flavour)
Pinch of cinnamon 350g jar stem ginger, drained 150g golden caster sugar Juice of 1 orange 2 sachets powdered gelatine 1 litre fruit juice glitter drink 200g greek yogurt Edible gold stardust

1. Put the liqueur into a pan with the cinnamon, stem ginger syrup, sugar and orange juice. Warm through.

2 Turn off the heat and stir in the gelatine until it’s dissolved. Shake the fruit juice and stir it into the warmed syrup. Pour into a large jug to cool.

3. Chop up the stem ginger. Put 12 glasses on to a tray. Reserve some of the ginger for decoration and spoon the rest into the glasses.

4. Pour over the glitter juice and chill for several hours. To serve, spoon the yogurt on top of the jelly, arrange the remaining pieces of stem ginger on top and sprinkle over the edible gold stardust.

Popcorn

Takes 20 min Serves 2-4

You will need
1tbsp vegetable oil 50g popcorn kernels 50g unsalted butter 75g light muscovado sugar 2tbsp golden syrup 1tsp vanilla extract 1/2tsp sea salt

1. Line two baking trays with parchment. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan. Add the popcorn kernels, put the lid on and heat, shaking the pan often, until the popping stops.

2. Melt the butter in another pan and add the sugar, golden syrup and vanilla extract. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves, turn up the heat and let it bubble for a few mins until caramel in colour. Stir the syrup into the popcorn, spread out over the baking trays and sprinkle with sea salt. Leave to cool.

Mince pies

Takes 35 min Makes 12

You will need
375g ready-rolled shortcrust pastry 500g jar mincemeat Milk, to glaze

1. Preheat oven to 200°C/Gas 6. Unroll the pastry and use a 5.5cm and 6cm cutters to stamp out an equal number of rounds from the pastry until it’s all used up. Grease a 12-hole bun tray and line with the smaller rounds of pastry.

2. Add 1tsp mincemeat to each pie. Damp the edges of the pastry with water and top with the lids. Carefully mark out a smiley face in each one using a knife. Glaze with milk and bake for 15 min until golden.
