Add personality to your home with a statement feature wall, we show you the best shades
From bold blues to daring pinks, there are plenty of ways to add personality to your home with a vibrant feature wall. Before you start, think carefully about the room you are decorating. For kids rooms it can be fun to experiment with colour, while master bedrooms need to be a relaxing and tranquil space so try out a muted palette. We’ve found a few of our favourite ever feature walls to showcase just how much fun you can have with colour!
1. Call it the blues
Indigo blue is bang on trend, in fact, it’s the hottest new colour for 2016. Why not experiment with the sophisticated shade by using it on a feature wall. It might be dark and moody, but it can work well in fun spaces too – as this child’s bedroom proves. Here, the ice-white furniture and colourful artwork offsets this funky hue perfectly.
2. Adventures in teal
Who says aquamarine can’t look beautful. Here two alcoves have been painted in this vibrant hue, reinforcing the idea that all things can be bright and beautiful. A lively damask wallpaper and teal coloured cushions help tie the scheme together, but we have a feeling this shade would look great whatever you teamed it with.
3. Luxurious lilac
A cool lilac feature wall looks fantastic in this country-style kitchen diner. In order to break up the block colour and avoid the scheme looking too overpowering the owners have painted above tongue and groove panelling.
4. Perfect pink
Apply a strong single colour to the wall next to your bed rather than behind. This muted pink tone looks great teamed with warm wood furniture.
5. Glorious green
Green has a wonderful calming effect and works well with lots of other colour palettes. Choose a sophisticated shade such as Spearmint Haze by Valspar.
6. Passion for purple
Feeling brave? Paint one wall in an eye-popping shade of purple for plenty of drama. Make sure you leave the rest of your scheme neutral – this shade is so strong that it’s worth letting it ‘sing’ out rather than adding other hues (or too many accessories)!
7. Black in business
Video Of The Week
Black is back and it’s stronger and more dramatic than ever. Here an entire wall has been painted in the shade and it looks fantastic as the backdrop to a striking walnut armoire.
