Sink into this season’s stylish sofas

In show-off shapes and dressed in laid-back fabrics, the latest country sofas are upping the comfort levels, looking better than ever and crying out to be curled up on.

1 Pretty in pink

‘My top tip when choosing a country sofa is to ask yourself, will I still like it in five years? Is it well made? And will it be really, really comfy?’ says Charlie Marshall, Founder, Loaf. ‘Our Crumpet sofa is slightly deeper than most so it’s super-comfy and the warm red hue instantly gives a cosy feel while the weave of the herringbone adds an interesting texture.’

2 Prints charming

‘A pair of these small, pretty sofas would look great sitting opposite each other either side of a fireplace,’ says Andrew Cussins, MD, Sofas & Stuff. ‘The Indian hand-blocked cotton print suits the simplicity of the fixed seat and back perfectly. And although this can be a very chic look, the hand-blocked pattern also works well in a country farmhouse setting, bringing a breath of fresh air to even the most traditional interior.’

3 Islands and highlands

‘By combining expert craftsmanship with hardwearing, beautiful and unique Harris Tweed, this sofa typifies that wonderful sense of heritage and tradition that makes Britain great,’ says Vanessa Arbuthnott, of her company’s super little sofa, completely made in the UK. ‘The colours of the tweeds, woven especially for us, are so incredible. They echo the landscape on the remote Scottish Island where they are made: sky, bracken, peat and, in this case, the sea.’

4 Button up

‘There’s nothing quite as luxurious as a button-back sofa or armchair,’ says Emma Williams, Head of Buying and Merchandising, Sofa.com. ‘Its effortless style is perfectly suited to a country home. Button detailing will add real character to the look and feel of your sofa. Consider customising it by choosing a designer fabric, changing the style of the legs, adding piping detail, or even contrasting coloured buttons.’

5 Loveable leather

‘A leather sofa has always been a country favourite. Choose a timeless, sophisticated design that is both modern in approach and classic in style,’ says Kate Thompson, Head of Buying for Home, House of Fraser. ‘The semi aniline type of leather used on this sofa is a supple and hardwearing choice, great for everyday comfort in a country home. A top coat finish helps to protect against fading and staining, while still embracing the leather’s natural characteristics.’

6 Subtle Scandi style

A sofa in a simple shape and a calming colour sets the scene for a countryliving room that’s a retreat from the busy world outside. ‘This clean-lined, contemporary sofa is perfect for introducing an on-trend Scandinavian look to the living room,’ says Helen Leigh-Jones, Designer, DFS. ‘The sofa frame,hand-crafted in our Derbyshire factory, is covered in super-soft off-white cord and the neat arms and chrome legs give it a sleek finish.’

7 Corner Piece

Video Of The Week

‘Corner sofas are ideal for maximising seating space without compromisingon comfort or style in a modern country home,’ says Unna Patel, Upholstery Buyer, John Lewis. ‘If you are limited on space, one with a low back and compact arms will prevent a room feeling overcrowded. If space is not an issue, opt for a larger corner unit that can be positioned in the centre of a room, creating a focal point.’
