David Bowie’s Caribbean island holiday home is available to rent

David Bowie private Caribbean island, Mustique

Home to royalty, visited by the super elite and famed for hosting a few Rolling Stones’ parties in its time, Mustique surely deserves the nickname ‘Fantasy Island’ – and of course, it’s just where you’d expect to find the holiday home of the late Ziggy Stardust.

David Bowie’s former home, Mandalay, is now available to rent next time you find yourself on the private Caribbean island, rubbing shoulders with Prince William and Kate Moss.

The 5-bed property was built and designed by the late singer in the 80s, but the décor isn’t as wild as you may think.

Opting for a zen-like style, the retreat is finished with luxurious features thanks to mastermind architect Arne Hasslqvist and designer Linda Garland.

Bamboo ceilings watch over exotic pieces of furniture that channel Indonesian fashions, but a few eclectic pieces (like that neon sign) nod towards Bowie and his chameleon style.

Combined with the characteristically calm Caribbean waters on the horizon, this certainly is a unique peace of paradise.

Each of the bedrooms has a private balcony to step onto and enjoy the tropical sun before retreating to the public areas and ‘The Studio’ – a space that was once occupied by Bowie’s record-producing studio.

Sitting on a 6-acre plot of land, the private gardens are equally as impressive – think cobbled steps cut into the side of a cliff, koi ponds, waterfalls and more.

The 3-mile island was snapped up in 1958 for £45,000 by Lord Glenconner and has remained privately owned ever since.

Guestlists are select, paparazzi are banned and commercial bars are few and far between, but here is the unique opportunity to jump into the celeb life, but it will set you back £28,000 for the week…
