Create your own wonder wall with an artwork display

Display artwork in picture perfect style with these inspiring ideas...

There’s nothing more beautiful than a feature wall displayed with favourite pieces of artwork to create visual impact in your country home. We’ve rounded-up five ways to hang your frames in full showcase glory…

Play with scale in a small room

If a room doesn’t have a natural focal point, a piece of artwork will work a treat. Take a bold approach in a small space and go for an over-sized image. ‘The contrast will create an installation-like feel, particularly with a contemporary or abstract piece,’ says Philippa Prinsloo, Home Design Manager, John Lewis.

Work with an architectural feature

Features such as a decorative cooker hood surround can provide natural places to show off a favourite picture. ‘A monochrome print has timeless appeal and ties in with the black and brushed steel of kitchen appliances,’ says John Sims-Hilditch, Co-founder, Neptune.

The power of a portrait

Painted portraits in heavy frames have a strong visual presence and are ideal for adding impact to an alcove – or the area between an open-plan living and dining space. Use an antique portrait of a relative as the main focal point above a table display of framed photographs of current loved-ones for a clever twist on the family tree.

Linear borders

Frame doorways by hanging vertical collections of artwork to give entrances and exits the wow factor. Pair matching sized frames on either side in linear unison and mix-and-match artwork to display in eclectic fashion. Don’t be afraid to play around with scale by using an assortment of frame shapes and sizes.

Pretty as a picture

Pretty-up a dull wall surface with an asymmetrical arrangement. This is a great solution when you have a group of prints that are different but share complimentary colours or themes. Stagger the frames to create interest and energy.
