Last week, the Livingetc
team pounded the pavements of central Milan and the gangways of the Fiera in search of new interior design trends. We were seriously impressed and inspired;
here is our round-up of the latest looks...

1. Cool curves

There was barely a sharp edge in sight at this year's Salone de Mobile fair. From sofas and chairs to dressing tables and wardrobes, soft curves abounded. Pictured below is a chair from Arketipo and Meridiani tables.

2. Decorative ceramics

Ok, so maybe we have a personal soft spot for beautifully made ceramics, but we were seriously wowed by some of the gorgeous designs on display. Pattern and texture were at the fore. Italian brand Rina Menardi was a great discovery, and we loved the pieces from Bitossi Ceramiche, below.

3. Deep blues

From indigo to aqua, blues have been dominant for a while, but that didn't prevent designers from turning to this palette for their new collections. Restful and grown up, we are talking about shades that are extremely easy to live with. Team with hits of acid yellow to create a very 2015 scheme. Shown below is Natuzzi.

4. Space age

From whirling, swirling matter to astrological charts and maps, outer space was a key source of inspiration for designers. We loved the wallpaper by boutique New York brand Calico, which took its pattern from Nasa images, while at the more established end of the market everyone from Tom Dixon to Moroso seemed to have looked to the sky for ideas. Pictured below are designs from Galotti & Radice and Diesel Living with Seletti.

5. Lipstick hues

The other key shades at the show were red and pinks, which were both used in abundance and together. Clashing was de rigeur. This fabulous table was designed by Paola Navone for Cappellini.

6. Brown marble

Carrera has been usurped with dark brown in the latest marble pieces. This gives a really luxurious, opulent look. See Flexform, Porada, Molteni & Co and Bonaldo, below, for inspiration.

7. Rattan

No longer the reserve of retro outdoor furniture, rattan has taken on a whole new guise, cropping up in stylish products by some of our favourite brands. It is a lovely way to bring subtle texture to a space. This chair is by Flexform.
