The British handcrafted home furnishings business goes modern with clean lines and silhouettes
Jim Lawrence‘s beautiful handcrafted creations have long been a favourite with stylistas. What caught Livingetc‘s eye recently were the new sleek, lighting designs. Although more contemporary in style than the company’s previous offerings, they’re all still created in its Suffolk workshop using traditional artisan skills.
This elegantly simple, hand-forged Ashwell floor lamp with adjustable shade, from £170, hits the strong graphic lines trend spot-on and is the perfect accompaniment for curling up with a book on a sofa on a cold, windy night. We can see it in a modern setting with a retro or industrial feel, but it would fit in almost anywhere.
Also new are the clever triple-track pendants – designed to wire into your ceiling at one point only (with just one cable needed). The stylish metal Barbican triple pendant light, from £209, comes in antiqued brass, nickel or clay (shown below) – a modern, rustic painted finish that gives a chic country look.
The 20th anniversary also sees the launch of a ready-made soft furnishings collection. From aprons and bags to draught excluders and cube footstools, every piece is handmade by the company’s team of seamstresses and individually presented in gorgeous packaging. The cute printed shopping totes, from £14 each, would make a lovely Christmas gift. Hint, hint!
