The Secret Garden: new collection of florals from Liberty

We delight in the wild, abundant beauty of these new florals from the talented design team at Liberty Art Fabrics Interiors.

The new Secret Garden collection of wallpapers and fabrics, as we would expect from the much loved Liberty brand, with its renowned archive of iconic floral designs, is an explosion of saturated colour and pattern.

Inspired by the enchanting classic 1919 novel The Secret Garden, the 10
new designs have all been created with a view to bringing a charming
feel of nature into the home. With design inspirations ranging from a
carpet of wild flowers, and rose trees in a walled garden, to a canopy
of leaves, wild ferns and a paisley design taken from a 19th century
Liberty archive shawl, there is something for everyone with a love of
floral design and rich colour.

Fabric bases vary, from rich velvet to ramie voile, heavy cotton linen, cotton satin and linen silk. Texture and colour are paramount, and as well as re-working archive prints with hand-drawn designs, innovative techniques were used to create the right look, including hammering flowers to release natural dyes, dip dying vintage tassels and painting onto leaves.

The complimentary wallpaper collection, the first ever at Liberty to feature digital printing, also references the beauty of nature with designs inspired by forest, meadow and wild garden scenes.

Fabric from £70m; wallpaper from £80m. To see more of the collection visit liberty.co.uk.

There is obviously something in the air this season, as another of our much loved fabric houses, Sanderson, have also launched a new floral collection based on their archival designs and the classic English country garden. Bringing some of the heritage Sanderson floral prints from the archive back to life, they have created a joyful and charming collection of fabrics and wallpapers, featuring strawberries, Hollyhocks, Roses, Sweet Williams and our much loved Lily of the Valley.
