If you thought that a cute little collar and the odd treat was enough to pamper your pet these days, think again...
How do you spoil the pet in your life – a cute collar, fancy cat-flap or a few little foodie treats? Well, you’ve got competition. There’s a new kind of pet-owner in town.
We were surprised to find that a crazy 75% of UK pet owners have chosen their next home… based on their pet’s requirements! Now that’s a lot of pampered pooches.
This is according to new research from pet treatment company Frontline Spot On, which surveyed 2,000 pet owners.
Over a quarter of pets have their own seat in the living room and 23% have a bed or cushion with their name on it. Pets in Yorkshire appear to be the most pampered, as they are most likely to have a space of their own in the house.
‘My dog Lucy is my little princess,’ says Leanne Couch, Mucky Pup dog salon owner and self-confessed pet obsessive. ‘I like to spoil her by buying her expensive accessories and collars.’
‘I spend more on Lucy than I do my children. I feel that if I lavish expensive presents on her its not going to change her personality.’
And that’s not all. One in seven Londoners love their pet so much that they’ve set up a pet social media profile (er, this comes as no surprise to the animal-loving team at Housetohome). Well, why not. They just look so cute on Instagram.

We celebrate special occasions with our pets too – and 60% of dog owners buy gifts for their pet’s birthday. On the flip side, if we want to avoid a social occasion, we blame our pets (poor kitty).
‘Pets are an integral part of UK homes,’ says Stephen Goddard of Frontline Spot On. ‘More homeowners are considering their needs when creating their home environment, as well as including them in everyday celebrations such as birthdays and Christmas.’
