The Queen proves she has a cracking sense of humour with comedy cushion choice at Balmoral

It's good to be Queen!

Despite the constant media attention, restricted lifestyle and hectic day job, we bet ‘it’s good to be Queen’ sometimes.

And it seems the actual Queen agrees!

Many of us were hooked Sunday evening when ITV was granted a rare opportunity to film the Queen and members of the royal family at home.

We saw the Queen run in a box at Ascot, we heard Harry give a playful dig at the ‘Kiwi’ rugby players and Kate Middleton almost told us her secret chutney recipe that she so famously gifted the her grandmother-in-law at Christmas.

We also got a rare tour around the royal residences; the Queen’s principal workplace, Buckingham Palace, the mews at Windsor Castle, stately rooms at Sandringham House and HRH’s favourite abode of all, Balmoral Castle in Cairngorms National Park, Scotland.

Whilst captivated by the home videos of the Queen’s children romping around the Highlands as children, the Duchess of York’s praising speech and the breathtaking vistas of clear rivers and Scottish hills, we almost missed Balmoral’s interiors.

But between the dog collars, books and bottles, a particular textile that made us chuckle…

The Queen has a cushion embroidered ‘It’s good to be QUEEN!’

No doubt a present from one of her grandchildren, (this has prince Harry written all over it!) the Queen clearly has a sense of humour as the cushion takes centre stage on the sofa and was allowed to be caught on camera.

Finished in regal red velvet with gilded letters, we wonder if this was a custom job or something picked up from the local London souvenir store…

Wherever it’s from, the cushion, along with the rare behind the scenes documentary about our Queen on the eve of her 90th birthday, has turned us into quite the royalist!

Happy birthday!
