Artist Gillian Wearing invites you to join in her latest video project by donating a clip of your view
Turner-prize winner Gillian Wearing is asking the the public to share the view from their home for her latest project.
“I wanted to do a project that could connect people and countries, that was simple and universal”, says Wearing.
And so the open submission film idea was born.
Everyone and anyone from a neighbourhood in Mumbai to a penthouse in New York can join in one of the largest collaborative films ever to be made.
The only instructions are that ‘you must open your curtains before we see the view. The unveiling is like the curtains going back on a theatre performance or cinema screening.”
The location of the shot will appear before the view is revealed so viewers have a moment to imagine what they are about to see – a rainforest, a coastline or metropolis of concrete towers.
The idea is that your ideal will rarely match the view you see behind the curtain.
Wearing’s fascination with views began in the 90s when she lived on the Thames and woke to outstanding shots of Tower Bridge everyday.
Now, she says: “I love the way a window is like a viewfinder – it frames what is in front of us.”
