Upcycle a plank of wood into a stylish peg rail!
Bright hooks on a distressed rail are great fun – why not make your own and show off your treasures?
You can never have enough hooks around your home – for hanging essentials like bags and scarves or even providing ideal areas to practice your styling skills.
Our quick and easy project offers the perfect opportunity to upcycle an old piece of wood, such as a floorboard. If bright hooks aren’t right for your scheme, then try ones with an antique pre-loved feel and work the vintage look.
You will need:
Thin plank of old wood
Wood saw
Sandpaper
Newspaper
White Tie Estate Emulsion tester pot, £3.95, Farrow & Ball

Tiger Screwdriver & screws Drill & wall fixings
Step 1
Cut your plank to approximately L70cm x W9cm and sand any rough edges. Protect your working area with a newspaper and roughly paint the plank with the cream emulsion, brushing any excess off your brush before applying to enhance the distressed look.
Step 2
Once the plank is dry, measure and mark 12cm in from one end, then three points 15cm apart from this first point (the last should be around 12cm in from the other end). Then screw each hook in place, having decided which order you want the colours, using two small wood screws per hook.
Step 3
Measure and mark a point at each end 3cm in and drill a hole, protecting your table underneath with an offcut of wood. Using suitable screws and fixings for your wall, screw the hook rack in place.
