Originally a gamekeeper’s cottage dating from around 1900, the chocolate-box pretty thatched cottage sits in an idyllic setting that’s straight out of a fairy tale. With 14 acres of land – including a bluebell wood – the dream country house is surrounded by woodland, while a modern green oak framed garden room overlooks a beautiful pond that is home to ducks and geese and a paddock with Shetland ponies.
The stunning green oak framed living room is a recent addition. To maximise the light that floods into the room, a palette of cool whites has been used that contrasts with the mellow tones of the wooden frame and floor. The spacious modular sofa adds a contemporary touch as well as providing plenty of seating space.
A corner of the living room is set aside for a vintage desk that doubles as somewhere to work. Upcycled finds have been given a lick of white paint to emphasise the fresh and clean feel.
The attractive open-plan kitchen is accentuated with an off-white colour scheme that emphasises the light and airy feel, while the wooden worksurface, tiled splashback and faux wooden floor inject warm tones that link with the original ledge and brace door. Classic Shaker cabinets create a period feel that’s in keeping with the age of the property, while red accessories have been used to punctuate the scheme with pops of colour.
An eyecatching window dressing, using jaunty striped linen fabric, frames the kitchen window and complements the woodwork and cast iron handles perfectly. Coloured glass bottles, complete with ceramic swing stoppers, and vintage-style crates make for a pretty display.
As the pretty dining room is part of the open-plan kitchen, a similar colour palette has been employed so that the scheme harmonises seamlessly. The white table and spindleback chairs, teamed with red stripes and gingham, instantly conjure up a rustic Scandinavian feel. Picture frames shelves displaying elegant white china provide a quirky touch.
The stylish main bedroom blends old and new beautifully, with painted vintage bedside drawers partnering a wooden bed that gives a nod to mid century modern style. A smart combination of blue and white is calming and perfect for creating a relaxing scheme.
In the guest bedroom, a charming period feel has been concocted with a traditional brass bed taking pride of place. Dressed with crisp white bedlinen, the bed exudes classic country cottage style, while butterfly cushions add a pretty, summery touch. Vintage accessories bring in extra period charm.
A delightful coastal look has been created in the children’s room where a neutral backdrop has been enlivened with pops of bold cobalt blues and warm sandy tones. Key country ingredients such as checked curtains and a crocheted throw introduce granny chic, and fun wooden boats play to the subtle seaside theme.

The beautiful bathroom undoubtedly has the wow factor. A rolltop bath makes an elegant focal point, and plantation shutters above it create a style statement at the windows. The pale palette conjures up a bright feel, while distressed furniture and monochrome accessories lend a sophisticated edge to a scheme that has a distinct French flavour.
