11 reasons home interiors obsessives will love Far From The Madding Crowd

With the film out this week, we take a look at the interiors treats that are in store

We’re super excited about the new Far From The Madding Crowd movie, which is out this Friday. Starring the beautiful Carey Mulligan, it promises what every period drama promises – a cracking good story, fabulous period costumes that we would love to try on, and gorgeous interiors that make us want to transport ourselves back to a time when we all addressed each other as ‘Mr’ or ‘Miss’.

Finishing tenth on the Guardian’s greatest love stories of all time in 2007, Thomas Hardy’s classic has enduring appeal. And other aspects of the culture of the time, such as the interiors and clothing, still have such a strong influence on us, too.

For those of you who love anything Victorian, the film will be an inspiration. Here are just a few of the things that you will enjoy… And we haven’t even mentioned the gorgeous Matthias Schoenaerts…

1 Beautiful rural surroundings, including a sheep farm

2 A ballroom where you can twirl all night

3 An opulent four-poster bed

4 Dramatic damask wallpaper

5 Large wooden doors and ornate wooden furniture

6 Traditional paintings

7 Wood panelling

8 Large windows

9 Trailing plants

10 Stone walls that let you know you’re in the countryside

11 Open fires

And, finally, one more for the animal lovers out there…

A cool pooch…

Far From The Madding Crowd is in cinemas nationwide on Friday 1 May
