1 Add a show-stopping floor lamp to the living room

‘My husband, who has turned into Liberace overnight, picked this completely mad lamp!’ says the owner laughing. Love it or hate it, you certainly can’t ignore this feather-festooned friend. ‘It was a brave purchase but it has brought so much fun and personality to what was a fairly minimal space,’ adds the owner.

2 Create a feature wall in the dining area

The owner was stuck with a fairly bland space so used an ink-blots-effect wallpaper to take the dining area from drab to dynamic. A burnished pendant light adds to the drama.

3 Give the kitchen stylish update

Much of the kitchen was upcycled by keeping the original units and island, then respraying the cupboard doors and replacing the worktops with marble. ‘We love having friends over,’ says the owner, ‘And now this room feels really communal and welcoming.’

    4 Add a key feature

Open plan living is great but sometimes intimacy is called for, says the owner. By installing this pivoting door they have the best of both worlds. With its glass inset, the view of the stairwell is unblocked, but if the door is closed, heat cannot escape out of the living area.

5 Luxe out in the bathroom

This is the owner’s favourite room. With its metallic finish wall and hanging chair, it’s functional as a family bathroom, but it’s also her retreat when the lights are turned low and there’s time for a long soak.

    6 Burnish up the bedroom

As the space is subterranean, the owner used shades of amber, brass and copper to add warm and depth. ‘It’s a cocooning space that I like to escape to when I have a spare moment,’ she says.
