    1 Fresh-smelling furniture polish
Pour one part lemon juice to two parts olive or linseed oil into a clean jam jar, then put the lid on and shake well.
Perform a spot test on your wooden furniture by blotting a splash onto a clean cloth and applying to a concealed area. If there aren’t any visible changes in the surface, work in the polish all over and buff to a shine.

    2 Lavender linen water
Scented water for linens and laundry is so easy to make and can make a real difference to your ironing when spritzed onto clothes. To make 180ml, mix 30ml vodka and 150ml distilled water and add 12-18 drops of lavender oil. Decant into a stoppered bottle and add a pretty decorative label.

    3 Sparkling glass cleaner
To keep glasses, vases or decanters shiny and bright, fill them with a few crushed eggshells and some vinegar or lemon juice. Leave the liquid in the glass for a couple of days, swirling around every now and then. Pour it out and wash with hot soapy water, rinse, then dry.

    4 Scented simmer pot
Make your whole home smell amazing with a steaming pot filled with fresh herbs and citrus fruit. Simply chop up some rosemary and lemon (or any other favourite combination) and add to a saucepan of water.
Bring to the boil before turning the heat down to create a steady simmer. When you’ve finished, you can bottle the remaining liquid in the fridge to use another time.

    5 Limescale remover
Fill the kettle with an equal part solution of water and white vinegar and let it soak for an hour, then boil. Empty the kettle and rinse it out thoroughly – this works for irons and coffee machines, too!

    6 Forest-fresh floor cleaner
As well as leaving your floors squeaky clean, this concoction smells of happy days strolling through a forest – lovely and fresh! Stir together 250ml white vinegar and 100ml liquid soap and pour onto 250g washing soda. Stir until the sofa has dissolved, then add 20-30 drops of pine essential oil. Use ½ a cup in a bucket of hot water to mop with, or use neat to get rid of more stubborn grime.
