You know it's going to be a good Friday night when you can hole up in a bar and watch live penguins while having a drink or three. Now there is a place where you can do just that
Located in the bustling Ikebukuro district in Tokyo, this is a bar like no other – it is home to a rookery of delightful penguins. Yes, really!
The cute animals are in a glass-encased aquarium-like area at the back of the bar with plenty of space to walk around and swim.
The unusual and downright quirky bar, with seating for 45 – includes counter seats, sofa-type seats, regular round-table seating and even a small private room, while the menu is packed with penguin-themed cocktails and foods, including lots of fresh fish. Think steamed mussels, Teppan-yaki lobster and fried squid to name a few.
Customers are able to observe the animals up close, take pictures with them, and if you’re lucky enough, you might even be able to feed your new flappy friends.
According to the information on the website, the aim was to create a place of relaxation in the middle of Tokyo where people can be comforted by viewing the penguins. The owner also hopes that it will become a lucky venue for wedding parties.
‘A pair of penguins raise their chicks with good care, cooperating together and keeping a long relationship between them. We wish the couples who have wedding parties or after-parties here a long-lasting happy life, celebrated by penguins.’
