Lay the table for a party

Before you weigh your table down with food, drinks and tableware, decorate your table top.

A length of leftover wallpaper or a smart tablecloth will protect the table from scratches and spills, and a scattering of glittery table confetti adds a celebratory shimmer.

Bowls and platters of nibbles will quickly fill your table, so use stacked cake stands as a space-efficient (and attractive) way to serve food.

Apart from the champagne (kept on ice and ready for a new-year toast), keep all the other wine, beer, spirits, mixers and soft drinks – along with glasses – on a separate table to avoid overcrowding at the buffet table.
