How to make the kitchen of your dreams a reality and avoid any costly mistakes
The kitchen essentials
Plumbing and electrical work
Keep plumbing work simple and reduce costs by designing your kitchen with your sink, washing machine and dishwasher all next to each other, preferably along one wall. You also need to think about all the plug sockets you’ll need for everything from kettles to fridges and washing machines and where they’ll be best positioned. All electrical work needs to be done first as cabling needs to be run under floors or into walls.
Make sure you have good overhead lighting as you’ll need to see well to chop food. Add atmosphere with feature lighting to illuminate glass display units or downlighters directed onto worktops. Remember exposed light fittings collect grease and grime, so it’s better to choose recessed fittings.
A kitchen floor takes a lot of wear and tear, so go for durability. Large tiles are very in – they make a space look bigger and give traditional flooring, like vinyl, ceramic or stone tiles, a new edge.
