This joyful Easter tablescaping trend was huge on social media last year. After seeing many of our favourite brands and influencers testing out the hack, the Ideal Home team decided to bring the napkin folding hack back and try it on our Easter table this year.

How to make napkin bunny ears

First, take your fabric napkin and fold the corners into the centre to form a rectangle. Then fold it again to form a smaller rectangle.

Secondly, place your egg in the centre of the rectangle and bring the sides of the napkin around the edge of the egg, bringing the ends to the top of the egg.

Then, take your twine, you can also use ribbon, and tie a bow around the napkin where it meets the top of the egg. The pointed edges of each end will look like bunny ears.

As a final touch, take a fresh cut flower stem and fix it to the egg using the twine. And there you have - the cutest Easter table decor in just three simple steps.

‘I was fully prepared for a Pinterest fail, but this Easter bunny napkin hack is shockingly easy. All you need to do is fold, wrap, tie, done. It looks like I tried much harder than I did,' says Amal Tabache, Social Media Assistant for Ideal Home who tried out the hack for us.

‘I had everything I needed already, napkins, twine, a couple of wooden eggs I got from Amazon. I had also been on a walk and picked up some flowers, so I figured why not try adding them, too.

‘The whole craft took maybe five minutes per setting, and it was really fun. Super easy, no stress, and somehow the table instantly looked way more Easter-y. Total win!’

After we posted a video of the hack on Facebook, other commenters were impressed by this easy Easter craft.

‘That’s so sweet! I love that the eggs aren’t coloured, and the end result is soft and natural. Great job!’ said one. And many others agreed it was a great idea.

Especially now that it’s spring and everything is blooming outside, we want our homes to blossom too. Sadly, flower bouquets are infamously pricey. But it turns out, they don’t have to be and there are ways how to make a flower bouquet for as little as £10.

This information is right on time as we’re only a couple of days away from Easter Sunday. And with that we’re all thinking about Easter decorating ideas to recreate for the upcoming celebrations. 

So without further ado, here’s what floristry insiders advise you to do to keep the costs of your flower bouquets low but the impact high in order to impress your guests this Bank holiday weekend and beyond. 

How to make a flower bouquet for £10

It’s a well-known fact that flowers do wonders for mental health and that they make every occasion all the better by brightening it up with their beautiful blooms. This is especially true when it comes to Easter, whether your centrepiece of choice is a blossoming Easter tree or a flower bouquet that’s cost you no more than £10.

And creativity, resourcefulness and seasonal stems are the three essentials of keeping to the set budget.

Keep to two types of flowers

Instead of buying lots of different flower varieties, keep the selection of stems more focused.

‘For bouquets with smaller budgets, I really like to slim down my flower selection and use two types of flowers or foliage only,’ said Alex Campbell, florist and social media influencer of @acfloralstudio, at a recent flower arrangement workshop hosted by Funny How Flowers Do That. ‘It puts more emphasis on the flower or colour being used and makes the arrangement more impactful. There’s also merit in choosing one or two stems of various flowers to create a small bouquet that is rich in textures, tones and colours.’ 

Choose seasonal flowers

Seasonal flowers tend to be cheaper as they are easier to source at the given time. And there are several varieties in season during this time of spring.

‘For someone aiming to craft a bouquet for as little as £10, I would suggest starting with a focal flower that is in season and reasonably priced,’ says Millie Durbak, brand manager of Prestige Flowers. ‘Carnations, tulips and chrysanthemums are excellent options that offer both affordability and beauty during the spring season.’

Alex Biggart, brand manager of 123 Flowers, agrees, suggesting seasonal wildflowers, too. ‘Focus on seasonal wildflowers that offer both charm and affordability. Selecting flowers like daisies, dandelions or wild violets can keep costs down while adding a touch of rustic beauty. Meanwhile, incorporating greenery such as ferns or ivy from the garden can add a lush feel without breaking the bank.’

Swap out greenery for dainty florals

‘Pairing these focal flowers with some inexpensive filler flowers can help create a full and visually appealing bouquet without breaking the bank. Replacing green foliage with delicate florals like baby's breath can add a charming and ethereal touch to a bouquet. The pros of using baby's breath include its affordability, longevity and ability to complement various flower types beautifully,’ Millie says.

It was Alex of @acfloralstudio that first gave us the idea, saying that for him green foliage detracts from the colour story of his flower bouquets. ‘I tend not to use greenery in bouquets as I feel it detracts from the colour story I’m trying to convey as, for me at least, it’s quite a strong colour to see. Instead, I like to use things like baby’s breath (gypsophila), which gives a neutral, white base, or limonium which comes in pinks or purples and combines well with the flowers I’m using.’

But at the same time, this is a question of personal preference and you can, of course, still use green foliage like eucalyptus or ferns. However, these may end up being more expensive than something as low-priced as baby’s breath.

Can you make a flower bouquet for £5?

While the challenge we set ourselves was making a flower bouquet for £10, we were curious whether a £5 bouquet was plausible, too.

‘Crafting a bouquet for £5 may seem challenging, but it's not entirely impossible. In such cases, I would recommend focusing on just one or two types of flowers that are readily available and affordable, such as tulips or daffodils,’ Millie recommends.

Alex of @acfloralstudio adds, ‘Often the beauty and benefits of flowers comes from the inherent material - i.e., the flowers themselves, rather than the overall bouquet. Even two single stems positioned together in a bud vase can tell a powerful, emotive story that transmits sentiment to whoever is making it or looking at it, and I think this is just as important as a bigger, or more expensive bouquet.’

Especially if you have a flower frog, every florist’s secret hack, which can turn any vessel into a vase and only a few stems into a modern, minimalist arrangement we’re seeing all over Instagram.

As an interior stylist I have set up many tables for seasonal photoshoots and at this time of year, I am often asked how to easily decorate an Easter table. The long Easter weekend break offers us all a great opportunity to get together with family and friends, and the dining table can be central to celebrating being together. 

When it comes to Easter decorating ideas, ensure your table blends in with your surrounding dining room colours by choosing a scheme which picks out accents that are already in the room and work with the overall aesthetic of your home. For example, if you have a neutral dining room chose a scheme which factors in natural materials, or if the backdrop allows it you could go for a classic pastel palette brought up-to-date with pops of joyful brighter colours, as I have on this table.

Once you've decided on your colour scheme give it an Easter theme with seasonal spring flowers, eggs in different guises and don’t forget a nod to the Easter bunny or two! 

Bright and colourful Easter tablescape

I love bright colours, and I've embraced them with this joyful Easter decorating scheme for my table. Here are my top tricks to styling your table like a pro.

1. Choose your backdrop

Invest in a tablecloth which ties in with the scheme in your dining room or a dining area in an open-plan kitchen-diner. This is a worthwhile investment as it will get used on other special occasions. Opt for a plain colour or a subtle pattern, as you're going to be building up the interest with other items, which you don’t want to be fighting for attention against the tablecloth. 

Of course, if your table has, for example, a nice wooden finish why not opt for a table runner teamed with placemats. Again keep them plain, so they don’t fight for attention.

2. Create a stunning centrepiece

Give your Easter table a focal point with an eye-catching centrepiece, which combines the different elements of your tablescaping and holds everything together. Give it some height with a cake stand like this Maxi footed plate from Wayfair. Here I used a ready-made cake from Sainsbury’s and simply positioned two adorable chocolate bunnies by Cathryn Cariad from Etsy on top, then I surrounded it with single stems of spring flowers, cut short and displayed in tiny bottles positioned around the cake. 

Another ideas is to use an Easter wreath with a large central church candle, or you could run posies of flowers interspersed with low candles along the length of the table, gathering taller flowers and candles in a circle in the centre. And if you're feeling crafty, have a go at this egg shell flower centrepiece. 

3. Elevate your everyday tableware

Use standard white or cream plates as the basis of your place setting. Then layer with a napkin to tie in with your colour scheme and add in a more decorative side plate like the Aleta from Wayfair. Either pick up side plates in sets or look out for vintage plates in charity shops. For an extra touch, try this year's favourite tablescaping trend - the napkin bunny egg. 

Serving up an Easter breakfast or brunch? Add in a decorative egg cup, too – I styled my table with this Wayfair's porcelain egg cup set . The simple style shown here has a wide rim where you can display an added extra chocolate treat or a little gift for a guest. 

4. Feather in seasonal flowers

Decorative water glasses with an embossed design like the Lim from Wayfair that I've used add another texture to your table setting and also make lovely low vases for a spring posy. Use it as a central display on a smaller table or as one of a collection displayed along a longer table. Simply arrange a mix of different blooms cut to the same length in each glass. 

Tulip petals can be opened or re-flexed to create a fuller bloom, as shown. This works best on tulips in full bloom. Remove them from water for a half an hour to slightly dehydrate before you start. Then gently place your finger on the thicker part of the petal where it is connected to the stem and pop the petal backwards to open. If the petal starts to tear, leave it for a few minutes more to dehydrate. Continue one petal at a time, working your way around the flower.

5. Personalise place settings

Have fun getting creative with place names. If you enjoy baking, you could make some Easter shortbread biscuits in egg or simple bunny shapes. Ensure you make a hole in the top before baking. When cooled ice with fondant icing then imprint the name or initial of the recipient and add to the design with embossed patterns (or you can buy these ones at Enchanting Bakes to save time!). Tie in place with a ribbon around the cutlery or around a rolled napkin. 

Alternatively, cut out eggs from card and draw on the name – this idea looks lovely decorated with rickrack and ribbons.  Both the shortbread biscuits or card alternatives make lovely Easter decorations without the names hung on an Easter tree.

6. Add table confetti for a final flourish

Table confetti always adds an extra bit of sparkle and with their shiny foil wrappers small chocolate eggs are a perfect seasonal addition. Take this idea a step further by mixing in larger honeycomb eggs along the table. Then fan out from the table into other areas of the room.

Hang varying sizes of honeycomb eggs above the table suspended on fishing wire or ribbons from command hooks stuck onto the ceiling. They also look great hung on the corner of chairs or laid along a nearby mantlepiece or shelf interspersed with spring flowers.

Spring is finally here and Easter’s come early this year so there’s plenty to be excited about. With less than a week away, the holiday is just around the corner and we’re collating all of the last minute Easter tablescaping inspiration to wow our family and friends over the bank holiday weekend. The Easter tablescaping trend 2024

‘Decorations make a table come to life and provide the perfect place to showcase some personality,’ says Rachael Kiss, marketing manager at Alliance Online. 

Creating your own personalised tablescape for Easter Sunday, which falls on the 31st March this year, is the perfect way to welcome the season and celebrate the occasion, whether you opt to craft an Easter-themed eggshell flower centrepiece, decorate an Easter tree or go for bunny-shaped napkin table favours. Or do all of them.

‘Napkins and tablecloths are perfect to spring into the Easter theme, but doing some DIY in making your own bunny napkin table favours provides that personal touch,’ Rachael says.

Rachel Fearnley of Rachel Fearnley Designs agrees, ‘Easter celebrations are a wonderful opportunity to be creative and to embrace the new season. A simple way to do this is to create Easter bunny napkins. These favours are a charming way to elevate your tablescape whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch or candle-lit supper.’

And this is what you’ll need to make them.

• Eggs – either hard-boiled eggs or chocolate ones, depending on your preference
• Ribbon or twine of your choice

Step-by-step guide

‘It’s a very quick and easy finishing touch to add to an Easter table and will bring a smile to guests’ faces,’ says Melissa of @littleterracedhouse. ‘I love anything that brings a little ‘surprise and delight’ which these bunny ear napkins definitely do.’ 

So with that in mind, let’s get to it. As previously mentioned (and as Melissa just said) this method is very easy, even easier than folding a napkin into a bow which was going viral over last Christmas. 

‘Before you start creating your table favours, it’s important to decide your tablescaping theme. Pastel, florals, stripes and gingham are go-to styles to achieve an Easter theme; although rustic and earthy tones would also work well. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to use colour in your tablescape - using your napkins is one of the easiest ways to do this,’ says Rachael of Alliance Online.

These are some of our favourite napkins that we’d be happy to make bunny-shaped Easter table favours out of.

‘To create the bunny, place the napkin on your table, if you are using a patterned napkin, have the patterned side facing down,’ Rachel Fearnley starts. 

‘Take one corner and fold it on the diagonal to create a triangle. Now with the point end of the triangle closest to you, roll the fabric up to form a “tube”. Bring both ends of the “tube” together and cross them over each other.’

Finally, tie with your choice of a ribbon or twine that best complements your tablescape and place either a hard-boiled egg or a chocolate egg in the centre.

Rachel adds, ‘There are different fun ways to personalise the bunny for each of your guests. To transform this into a place setting, write your guest’s name onto a small luggage label. Then attach the label to the top of the bunny’s ears.’

Alternatively or additionally, you can paint the hard-boiled eggs to reflect each of your guest’s style or personality, you could place a dried of fresh flower stem where the tie sits as Melissa has done and more.

Easter is less than two weeks away, and we are starting to collect Easter-themed hacks and crafts to decorate our homes with for the occasion. And we stumbled upon a showstopping one as we were scrolling through our Instagram feed - a DIY flower centrepiece for Easter made with leftover eggshells.

What a genius Easter decorating idea! And budget-friendly at that as you don’t need much to create this floral centrepiece for an Easter lunch spread. The hack comes courtesy of Melanie Lissack, one of our favourite DIY and decorating enthusiasts, who we love to follow through her blog and Instagram page. 

When it comes to the perfect centrepiece for an Easter table, the current trendy go-to is an Easter tree with flowering branches placed in a vase and decorated with Easter-themed ornaments. But this DIY flower centrepiece is a serious contender.

DIY egg shell Easter centrepiece

In her Instagram caption, Melanie says that it ‘makes an affordable floral centrepiece for the Easter table’. But it’s also a sustainable one as it repurposes waste, in this case leftover eggshells which Melanie saved for a week from her husband’s breakfast, and makes it into something truly beautiful. 

‘When we think about Easter and eggs, chocolate eggs are often the first things that spring to mind,’ says Rachel Fearnley of Rachel Fearnley Designs. ‘But there are lots of things that we can do creatively with eggshells too that add a lovely touch to Easter decorations.’

What you'll need

How to make the egg shell Easter centrepiece

Rachel too recommends to ‘use the shells from eggs that have been cooked. So when having your boiled eggs for breakfast, be very careful when removing the top of the egg shell. Once you have eaten the egg, wash out the shell in warm soapy water and leave to dry thoroughly.’

Once you’ve collected enough eggshells, you can move onto the crafting. Start by painting the shells with decoupage glue and sealer like this one from Hobbycraft – if you know how to decoupage then you might already have one knocking about the house. This step preserves the eggshells and makes them less fragile.

If your eggs have those numbered stamps on their shells (as most do), then you’ll need a white marker pen or a Tipp-Ex to cover those.

Once dry, squeeze a tiny drop of super glue on the bottom of each shell and attach them to your wooden slice (or a similar wooden board of your choice) in a circle formation.

Then just fill each shell with water and short spring stems. And you’re pretty much done. You can also place a candle in the middle, ideally one with a fresh seasonal scent like The White Company spring candle collection. And place it in the middle of your table. We love how Melanie paired hers with a charming gingham tablecloth in sunny yellow. So fitting.

Easter is about two weeks away and we’re starting to embrace all things springy. As that’s what the holiday signals - the arrival of spring with its warmer weather, longer and lighter days and blooming flowers and trees. Speaking of trees, this Easter has also given rise to a new seasonal trend known as Easter trees.

This Easter decorating idea consists of a tree branch arrangement in a vase with Easter-themed decorations hung from the branches. Similar to Easter wreaths, there are several things to consider when creating your Easter tree design – from colour schemes to the type of branches. 

But the idea of decorating trees and bushes with Easter eggs is nothing new to Germany, which is where this festive trend originates from. Known as the Ostereierbaum, the tradition is centuries old here and in surrounding countries.

Even holidays like Christmas and Easter come with their own home decor trends. And this Easter, which falls on Sunday 31st March, is championing the Easter tree as its showstopping display, its pièce de résistance.

‘Decorating your home for Easter is a lovely way to celebrate the arrival of spring,’ says Rachel Fearnley of Rachel Fearnley Designs. ‘And although Easter is very early this year, there are signs that spring is on its way; and many of these can be incorporated into decorations that reflect the season. Easter trees are a simple but very stylish way to decorate your home for Easter. These ‘trees’ are portable and can be used as the centrepiece for your dining table or casually placed on a windowsill.’ 

And this is how you can style them to achieve the maximum impact with your Easter tree display.

1. Choose flowering branches

The branches are the base, the structure that holds the whole display. So choose your branches wisely. 

‘Look for branches that are flexible yet sturdy, such as cherry blossom, apple, or pussy willow branches,’ says Millie Durbak, brand manager at Prestige Flowers. ‘These varieties are not only visually appealing but also hold decorations well without drooping.’

She adds, ‘Consider the size and shape of your vase when choosing branches - you'll want them to fit comfortably without overcrowding the space. Choose ones that are not too thick or too thin - aim for branches around one to two inches in diameter for a balanced and substantial look.’

Before placing your branches in the chosen vase, give them a fresh cut at an angle to prolong their lifespan. And don’t forget to place them in water and regularly change it as well.

2. Craft homemade decorations

Just like making homemade Christmas decorations, you can make your own for Easter too. Whether that’s using empty egg shells or cardboard shaped into egg silhouettes as eggs are traditionally used to decorate the tree.

Rachel shares how she makes her own Easter decorations for the festive occasion, ‘I create tiny wreaths using thin twigs, I then attach small flowers that I have made from cotton fabric. When hung from the branches they gently move in any breezes that come through the room.’

She continues, ‘Button Easter eggs are also easy to make and look really effective when hung from the tree. Simply cut out small pieces of coloured cardboard into egg shapes. Select pastel-coloured buttons and either stick them or sew them onto the cardboard. Stick two “eggs” together, and at the top of the opening, insert a small piece of ribbon to hang the egg onto the branch.’

3. Opt for a pastel colour scheme

Choosing a colour scheme and sticking with it will tie the whole display together. And pastels are the most Easter-esque shades.

‘Consider creating a theme for your tree. This will help guide your ornament selection and give your tree a cohesive and polished appearance. Soft pastel hues like blush pink, mint green, and powder blue are classic choices for Easter,’ Millie says.

But if a pastel colour scheme is not your cup of tea, you can also choose colours that complement your home decor.

4. Create a minimalist display

‘Unlike the Christmas tree, when I am decorating a tree for Easter, I prefer a minimalist approach. I think a few carefully curated pieces add a certain charm to the tree which express the changing season and new hope associated with Easter and spring,’ Rachel says.

A minimalist approach can be interpreted in two different ways - like Rachel, you can choose only a handful of decorations to put on your tree, or you can opt for a pared-back minimalist aesthetic in neutral tones, simple shapes and bare branches. The latter is especially great if you’re looking to modernise your Easter tree arrangement. 

5. Mix and match decorations

An eclectic, mismatched look can work just as well as a minimalist style, it just depends on your personal taste. Mixing and matching various decorations can produce a result that’s both charming and fun.

‘Mix and match different textures and materials for added interest - consider incorporating glittery ornaments, satin ribbons, and delicate lace trims for a layered and dimensional effect,’ Millie suggests.

‘By following these styling tips and selecting the right branches, you can create an Easter tree that is not only beautiful and festive but also reflects your personal style and creativity. Let your imagination soar and have fun bringing your Easter tree to life,’ Millie concludes. We couldn’t have said it any better than that.

Interiors experts at luxury bed company, Crafted Beds, have used a combination of Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram and Google search data to find out the top Easter decor trends for 2022. The research showed that Pinterest searches for 'Easter Christmas trees' are up by a staggering 63% this week.

Plus, #eastertree now has over 1.4 million views on TikTok. This 'new' trend actually comes from an old German tradition of hanging Easter ornaments on a tree with bare branches.

We think it's a lovely activity for kids, too. You can always give it a little edit when guests come over. Display a small tree on the dining table, in the window sill or sideboard as a seasonal hallway idea.

Poundland Easter gonks have landed in stores and are helping to spread goodwill among the community. Members of the Poundland Appreciation Society on Facebook have been sharing their Easter table displays. One man even ran a giveaway for those who weren't able to access the shops:

This eye-catching display is from online retailer Wayfair, who shows us that by using some of their faux flowers and other accessories, your porch and front door area can be transformed for Easter. Using pastel shades with dashes of coral and pink, alongside some natural dried grasses, it's a colourful scheme that really livens up the dark-grey steps and door.

'Think bushy bristle grass, sleek stems and vibrant peonies for an extra cheerful look,' says Wayfair's style advisor Nadia McCowan Hill.

Add a floral wreath

No longer just for Christmas, wreaths are big news all year round and are a great way to dress up your door for the changing seasons. This pretty floral design has some dried grasses and a burlap bow added to it for a springlike feel.

Faux flowers are easy to work with and you don't have to worry about replacing them when their time is up. To build a tower or arch, create a 'pole' using rolled-up chicken wire and hook it where you want it to go, whether it's around your doorway or at the side of a porch as shown here. Then, poke your chosen stems through the holes until your display is looking full and bushy.

Fill a cart with blooms

How pretty is this little cart? It's definitely our favourite part, and when put alongside some grassy bunnies and vases of flowers it makes a beautiful display.

'Take some inspiration from the countryside and decorate a vintage-style wheelbarrow with faux flowers and greenery,' says Nadia. 'Spring blooms and metal lanterns equipped with LED candles will also add a hint of rustic romance to your porch.'

Create a topiary cloud

We've seen floral 'clouds' go viral on social media, so why not create your own overhead hanging display using topiary balls? Take off the chains, which can look a little bulky, and string them up using fishing wire instead. They don't have to stay just for Easter either – why not keep them up all year?

Keep eggs in a basket

Whether you decorate some of your own eggs or buy a few beautiful ornaments, show them off in a wicker basket. 'Putting all your eggs in one basket is perfectly acceptable when it comes to Easter decorations,' says Nadia, 'so why not repurpose that wicker shopper by filling it up with hay festooned with an assortment of Easter eggs?'

Use crates as display shelves

Easter signs, bunnies and flowers all need a home, which is where a stack of small crates or storage boxes comes in. Leave them in their wood finish or paint them in pretty pastels to match your display.

Olivia Clarke, Seasonal Buyer for John Lewis says 'Our customers are adorning their homes with pastel coloured delights this Easter, with sales of Easter trees up +456% since last year. Hanging decorations are proving popular too, with sales up +482% since last year. From eggs-pertly styled tablescapes to bannisters dressed with Easter garlands, our customers are making sure every inch of their home is considered.'

Easter decorating ideas

When it comes to seasonal Easter decorating ideas, one of the best places to start is with an Easter table setting or centrepiece to complement your dining room ideas. Choose vintage-style touches, such as china with faded floral designs or vintage glassware in delicate tones. And why not use your regular homeware to make a unique Easter display - a cake stand or serving platter is the perfect place to display ornamental birds, bunnies or homemade gifts.

Pretty vases and pitchers filled with springtime florals or potted bulbs in planters dotted along a table can also create a striking centrepiece that will wow your guests. Then add on traditional extras such as painted eggs in tea cups and bowls, bell jars and lanterns filled with blossom, or mini wreaths and spring garlands decorating place settings.

1. Decorate the doorway

Ensure that the front door and entrance way are looking tip-top if you’re planning on hosting family and friends over the Easter holidays. A fresh coat of paint in a cheery colour will work wonders at perking up a dull door - or for a more speedy spruce-up try a display of colourful painted eggs and spring flowers in a tub or basket. 

Make an easy Easter wreath to hang on the door, using a simple rattan grapevine wreath, from £5, Hobbycraft, as your base. Grab a selection of coloured foliage, faux mini eggs and floral picks to decorate, arrange everything in place to cover roughly half of the garland and then glueing on using a hot glue gun. Tie your wreath with a loop of coloured ribbon in a pretty pastel shade and hang on your door.

Make your Easter table sparkle with a seasonal centrepiece that will delight guests at family gatherings. Created using a large branch or wooden pole, suspended from the ceiling, this fab Easter craft idea can be easily adapted for other festivities, be it birthday parties or Christmas celebrations. 

Use sturdy hooks and fishing wire or coloured cord to suspend your hanging centrepiece, then simply decorate with seasonal foliage, such as sprigs of cherry blossom, yellow mimosa or fresh tulips wired-on, or add a selection of ornaments and decorative hanging eggs, £15 for 6, Sophie Allport, as a pretty finishing touch.

3. Make an easy Easter tree

Put together a colourful Easter tree display to pretty up the house over Easter. A lovely idea for brightening up the hallway as guests come in, or use a tree to decorate a buffet or sideboard if you’re hosting family and friends over the holidays. 

Grab a handful of twiggy branches, collected from the garden or opt for a couple of shop-bought sprigs of blossom or pussy willow if easier to find. Stand your branches in a sturdy vase filled with sand so that it won’t topple over. To decorate, get little ones to paint coloured eggs that they can tie on, or simply buy a selection of paper egg decorations, £10.50 John Lewis if you’re pushed for time.

4. Make cute bunny napkins

A fun way of decorating the breakfast table over the Easter weekend, little ones will love waking up to these super-cute bunny napkin ears. Why not stand one at each place to brighten up the morning’s boiled egg and soldiers?

Learn how to fold a napkin into a bunny and then once you’ve mastered the technique, whip up a family-sized batch using pretty gingham napkins, alternated with a few plain pastel shades for a colour co-ordinated look.

5. Play peek-a-boo at the window

If you’ve an egg hunt planned over the Easter holidays, have fun by decorating all over the house to keep little ones entertained. 

Try a few peek-a-boo bunnies at windows to surprise and delight younger members of the family as they come in. These easy-to-apply Bunny window stickers, £7.99, Ginger Ray, are made of vinyl and cling to windows with no adhesive needed. Just fix in place with a light mist of water and smooth firmly. They can be removed easily afterwards and used again another time. 

6. Stencil a bunny table runner

Create an Easter-themed table runner to use as the backdrop for a festive feast. Any plain fabric runner will do, or use a strip of natural hessian, £8 per pack, Hobbycraft cut to length and the edges frayed for a rustic look. 

Buy a ready-made stencil, or make your own, drawing a shape onto a sheet of acetate and then cutting out with a craft knife - simple shapes such as bunnies, chicks and Easter eggs work well and are easy to cut out. Fix your stencil in place in the centre of the runner using tape, then carefully apply fabric paint in a contrast colour using a small sponge or stencil brush to dab the paint on.

7. Bake Easter place settings

Make Easter celebrations eggs-tra special by whipping up a batch of edible place setting biscuits. Simply tie with ribbon or string around napkins and they’ll look super pretty decorated with coloured icing.

Use a basic gingerbread recipe, cutting the dough into small rectangles (enough for all your guests) and pushing a tiny hole in each using the tip of a plain icing nozzle. Once your biscuit label shapes are baked and cooled, mix up some white icing and use a piping bag with writing nozzle to decorate the biscuits, adding guests’ names or an Easter greeting. They’ll make a lovely treat for guests to take away afterwards.

8. Make a pom-pom bunny

Decorate a wall or a doorway for Easter with this easy DIY project. The bunny wall hanging is made out of assorted woollen pom-poms. You’ll need 18 small pom-poms for the ears, 13 medium-sized for the head and 11 large for the body. Use a pom-pom maker set, £4, Hobbycraft to speed things up, or make your own using a simple cardboard template. 

You’ll also need two wire wreath frames, large and small, to create the bunny shape. Secure the smaller one above the larger, using a piece of wire, then shape two bunny ears out of two 20-inch pieces of wire and attach. Once you have your basic bunny shape, simply tie on the pom-poms with short lengths of wool, knotting securely at the back. Then simply hang on the wall or your front door with a length of brightly-coloured ribbon.

9. Make Easter treat jars

Cute treat-filled jars topped with toy animals make a sweet Easter gift for little ones and can be re-used afterwards for storing toys or children's stationery. If you’re stuck for things to do on a quiet afternoon, this is a great idea for getting children involved, letting them try their hand at making their own jars and it's a fun way of re-using old jars too.

Use plastic toy farm animal figures, £6.99, Amazon for these Easter themed jars or you could just as easily use other mini figures, such as toy dinosaurs or soldiers. Fix the figures to the jar lids using a hot glue gun, then paint with tester pots in a mix of pretty pastels or bolder primary shades. Wrap lambs with coloured wool for a fun touch

10. Create an easy Easter centrepiece

If you’re hosting Easter lunch and need a speedy table setting idea, this easy gift box table topper will take no time at all and is a great way of using up spare scraps of gift wrap and remnants of ribbon from your craft stash.

Just grab a handful of small boxes and wrap them up in a colourful assortment of pretty papers. If you can match them to your table colour scheme, all the better. Tie with coloured ribbons and bows to create a mix-and-match effect and pile upon a simple china cake stand. Add mini chocolate eggs and floral sprigs to decorate.

11. Use mini jars for an Easter egg hunt

Delight little ones with cute bunny-tail chair decorations - perfect for a post-egg hunt tea. Wrap a length of wide ribbon around your chair back to start, then simply add a supersized white woollen pom-pom in the centre (use a hot glue gun to fix in place). Cut two ear shapes from pink felt, pinch in at the bottom and then glue in place on your pom-pom.

For a last-minute Easter gift idea, try this easy upgrade that will make shop-bought bulbs and inexpensive plants in plastic pots look super-special. 

Perfect for mini potted daffodils or hyacinths, buy a roll of floral gift wrap and cut a few large squares to size (enough to wrap each pot in). Once you’ve wrapped your pot, simply tie with a piece of rustic twine or coloured ribbon and add a gift tag if required. You could also add a layer of moss as a topper with a few decorative eggs nestled in here and there.

14. Decorate eggs with temporary tattoos

Temporary tattoos are a fantastic way to add instant decoration to eggs, and are available in all sorts of designs- including these beautiful butterflies. Begin by washing and blowing eggs and leave them to dry. Next take an individual tattoo, remove the top protective plastic sheet and place face down on the surface of the egg. 

With a wet cloth, press and apply even pressure to thoroughly soak the tattoo. Leave for around 60 seconds, then slide off the paper backing sheet and allow to dry.

15. Get crafty with macramé bunny plant pods

Lay up your dining table ready to welcome guests with a table featuring plenty of colour and fresh florals. A classic farmhouse table and mismatched seating creates a dining area with a laid-back feel, designed for long, lazy weekend breakfasts or lunches with friends.

Colour-pop candles will bring vibrancy to your table settings even if they don't get lit, and chairs painted in bright, cherry shades will bring joy to your space all year round.

Wreaths have long been associated with Christmas. But it seems they’re becoming incredibly popular for another annual holiday — Easter.

Hobbycraft has reported a 50 per cent increase in Easter wreath sales, compared to last year. It's noting a surge in people buying both ready-made and make-your-own wreaths for spring.

It makes perfect sense really. A floral wreath looks great hung on a door, in a garden or as a centrepiece for a farmhouse-style kitchen, any time of year. For these multi-seasonal wreaths, Hobbycraft offers a variety of different bases, including rattan and metal options — both of which have seen a 50 per cent increase in sales, respectively.

It seems there’s also an element of sustainability to the rise in these Easter wreaths, with people reusing old Christmas wreaths and updating them with new flowers or decorations, or purchasing a faux flower wreath they know will come in use year after year.

1. Make holes in your eggs

Holding the egg above a bowl, carefully tap and push a hole in the top centre of the egg with a nail. Push the nail in as far as it will go and remove. Take your cocktail stick and insert it into the hole; stir it around to help break up the yolk. Flip the egg over and repeat the whole process on the opposite side.

2. Empty out each egg's contents

Hold the egg over a bowl and flush out the contents of the egg by blowing through a hole. Once all contents of the egg have been emptied, clean the egg shell with water. Wipe carefully with a cloth and leave to dry. Prepare more egg in the same way.

3. Place them on skewers

To make decorating easier, carefully thread your clean eggshells onto wooden skewers.

4. Decorate your eggs

As Easter Sunday approaches, there are dangers for our cats and dogs that we can fail to notice.

Clare Hamilton, the founder of Cherry Tree Vets, provides advice and insight on the hidden dangers of Easter for our pets and what responsible pet owners can do to ensure that their pets are safe. After all, our pets should be able to enjoy the extra attention this Easter.

While a day full of family, overloading on chocolate, and enjoying hot cross buns sounds delightful for us, it is important to remember to remain responsible when it comes to our dogs and cats. To keep our pets safe during a day full of food and fun, I have some advice on how to keep your four legged friends safe throughout the day and what four dangers you need to watch out for.

1. Chocolate

Easter Sunday means for a lot of us, that chocolate Easter eggs will be shared and devoured. We love giving chocolates as a gift to friends and family, and we love receiving them. But for our pets, these treats are poisonous. Your pet might notice you popping a piece of chocolate in your mouth, but if your companion takes a bite, it could be deadly!

One common toxic component in chocolate is theobromine. Humans can digest theobromine but our pets process it much more slowly and it can poison them. Whilst your pet might not eat a large quantity of chocolate, even a small amount can be dangerous, resulting in diahorrea or vomiting. Mild signs of poisoning can occur in animals depending on the amount ingested and the animal’s bodyweight.

To prevent your pet from eating chocolate, make sure that it is out of reach. If your dog or cat is curious and likes to search for food that you do not want them to eat, then we suggest hiding it.

2. Currants

As a fruit, pet owners may think that their cats and dogs can be treated to a little currant from their hot cross bun. WRONG! Currants, like raisins and grapes, are very toxic to dogs and cats. The main risk pets have to ingested currants is severe acute kidney failure. All types of currants can result in this occurring for your pet. Even organic currants can result in toxicity. The toxicity is not necessarily dose-dependent and symptoms can occur from even the smallest ingestions.

To prevent your pet from being urgently rushed to the vet, we suggest eating your hot cross buns away from your pet. If you are near your pet and eating, eat a table and ensure your food is on your plate. We suggest this because if you were eating on the sofa, it is more likely to crumble with currants accidentally falling on the floor creating an enormous danger if it isn’t picked up immediately and your pet devours it.

3. Boxes

When gifted with Easter Eggs, cats and dogs can be drawn to the cardboard boxes they are packaged in. Cats in particular are incredibly adapt at fitting into small spaces, so be sure to dispose of your boxes straightaway to prevent your cat from being stuck in a box or panicking after having taken up camp there.

4. Spring bulbs

Easter is the perfect time of year to gift Spring flowers to those who aren’t a fan of chocolate. But make sure you keep them out of reach of your dog, particularly if they enjoy chewing or digging in the garden.

What you may not know is that Daffodils are poisonous to dogs and cats. If they eat the bulbs or flowers, or drink water from a vase with daffodils in. The result of this is that your pet can get an extremely upset stomach which can make them vomit, make them sleepy, and very wobbly on their feet. A dog that has been poisoned by daffodils might also be prone to having fits.

We suggest keeping your dog and cat out of the garden if they are prone to digging and chewing. If they need to go outside, then we suggest staying in the garden with them and being extremely observant when they are around spring flowers.

1. Create a wow display

Make 3D paper easter egg decorations to hang from branches of spring-favourites pussy willow or cherry blossom. Cut out eight identical egg shapes from pastel-coloured card, fold each in half lengthways, and then open back out. Place them on top of each other and then staple of couple of times down the spine of the stack and fan out the sides to make a 3D egg.

Hang from a length of pretty butchers twine or narrow ribbon.

2. Make a spring wreath

Swap out your ideas of wintry wreaths for a light, spring-like design that can be hung on walls for a simple nod to the season (and simultaneously hits the mark with this year's botanicals trend). Gather some of the season's prettiest yellow-and-white blooms for this fresh-flower wreath. Bend a length of pre-soaked willow into a ring, and gently twist into shape - as it dries, this should hold without any extra fixings.

Secure sprigs of rosemary along the sides and fern leaves along the base of the ring, securing with florist's wire. Then attach the biggest of your flowers, followed by the smaller buds, binding the stems to the wreath base using florists wire. If you're not sure which blooms to use, we chose hellebore, narcissi and star of Bethlehem.

Cut back any long stems, and then hang in your home for a beautifully scented and fresh-looking Easter decoration.

3. Create a spring centrepiece

If you want to take that rustic vibe a bit further, turn your hand to making a twiggy planter that's inspired by wild woodland floors. Gather a selection of twigs from the garden,  sort them into two groups - thinner and thicker twigs.

Use a staple gun to attach the first layer of the thinner twigs to a slender slice of a tree log, which is slightly bigger than the diameter of a medium garden pot (be sure to measure this first). Glue a second layer of a thicker twigs around the edge, using a glue gun, and then cover the staples and glue with a band of linen, tied in place with florist's wire.

Plant some flowering bulbs inside the planter itself and place into the twiggy planter cover for a sunny-looking rustic floral hallway display.

4. Get arty

Add an Easter touch to your wall or shelf with a super-cute Easter bunny framed piece of DIY artwork. Cut a piece of coloured card and white card to fit in your picture frame, then cover the piece of white card with parallel strips of washi tape.

Draw a bunny outline on the blue card and cut out using a craft knife, then pop the blue card and then the tape-covered card into the frame.

5. Give treat jars a fun twist

These bunny and lamb jar toppers will have kids (and grown ups!) hopping with delight. Wash out old jars, and use a hot-glue gun or other strong adhesive to glue a mini plastic animal to the centre of each jar lid. Once dry, give them a spritz with pastel spray-paint, applying a second coat if needed.

And don’t forget to fill the jars with chocolate eggs and sweet treats to avoid disappointed faces!

6. Stack ‘em up

Give your Easter table the perfect finishing touch with a centerpiece that’s got plenty of rustic charm. Turn the dome of a large glass bell jar upside down and fill it with raffia and speckled egg decorations in pastel hues. Place the base on top and the turn the right way up. Simple as that.

7. Pretty up with flowers

These delicate eggshell vases will brighten any side table or shelf. Carefull poke a smaller hole in the top of an egg, then peel away small sections of the shell until you have made a decent-sized hole. Empty the egg yolk and white into a container to use later (omelette, anyone?), then rinse out the shell.

Stand them in a cute egg cup, fill with water and pop in dainty spring blooms such as narcissi or campanula.

8. Make them a mini nest

The birds are busy making nests, so why not join them by fashioning a cute decorative planter for flowering bulbs? Weave together spirals of grapevine garland using florists' wire to create a nest-like shape. Place a small piece of plastic into the base of the nest to make it waterproof, and add the flowering bulbs and soil - we recommend narcissi and muscari.

Top with a layer of moss, and it's ready to gift.

9. Take time for tea

Style up an egg-quisite floral arrangement using vintage teacups and saucers in pretty pastel shades. Fill with tiny spring flowers like miniature narcissi and grape hyacinth, topped with moss. If you’re feeling green-fingered, why not plant your own bulbs and watch them grow?

10. Hop out on a hunt

Make sure your Easter egg hunt is picture-perfect with these chic treat jars. Wrap steel wire around the neck of a clean jar, and twist the ends of another length of wire around it on either side of the neck to create a loop for hanging. Tie some stylish stitched ribbon over the top to cover the wire around the neck, and then personalise with a paper tag, tied on with narrow ribbon.

Apart from Googling 'when is Easter?', one of the most frequently asked questions at this time of year concerns the tricky Easter bank holiday opening hours. Imagine it's a decent stretch into the long weekend: In between all the Easter egg hunts, chocolate scoffing and bank holiday film watching, invariably you'll run out of milk, get an overwhelming craving for some fresh produce or have a sudden, inexplicable hankering to undertake a little DIY project.

The problem is, at Easter, the supermarket hours are all over the shop (pun intended).

Rather than finding yourself standing with an empty trolley in front of a closed supermarket on Easter Sunday, here are some handy links to the store finder pages for all our favourite retailers.

Easter bank holiday opening hours

While some supermarkets will operate under their usual Sunday opening hours, which is normally 11am to 5pm for large superstores, these links are your best bet to get you up to speed on the variations between superstores, local and express branches of your favoured food market.

Aldi

Stores will open at 8am - 10 pm on Good Friday and Easter Monday but will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Asda

The supermarket giant will remain open 24 hours across the Easter weekend with some closures on Easter Sunday - check out the store finder to see if this applies to your local Asda.

Lidl

Times vary upon location, but generally stores will be open 8am - 8pm on Good Friday and Easter Monday, operate normal hours on Saturday and 10am - 4pm on Sunday.

Marks & Spencer

Most stores are operating on special opening hours across the weekend. These are 9am - 9pm on Good Friday and Easter Monday, normal hours on Saturday but closed on Sunday. For more information see the store finder.

Morrisons

Most stores across the country will open at normal time but close at 9pm on Good Friday and 7pm on Easter Monday. Saturday will see all stores operate as usual but closures on Sunday.

Sainsbury's

Supermarkets will open as usual on Good Friday but have varied closing times. Most stores will be closed on Sunday but open again on Easter Monday 9am - 7pm.

Tesco

The retail giant will open as usual on Good Friday and Saturday but will be shut on Easter Sunday. Stores will be open 9am - 6pm on Easter Monday.

Waitrose

Good Friday and Saturday will see restricted opening times of 7/8am - 8/9pm but most stores will be shut Easter Sunday and Monday.

And for the home improvers amongst you...

Homebase

Most stores will operate at normal opening hours on Good Friday and Saturday. Stores will then be open 10am - 4pm on Easter Sunday and 8am - 8pm on Easter Monday.

B&Q

B&Q will open as usual on Good Friday and Saturday across most stores. Easter Sunday will have opening hours of 10 am - 4pm and stores will be open 7am - 8pm on Easter Monday.

Wickes

As our favourite food hall in London, we had to include a glorious (if rather ostentatious) egg from Fortnum and Mason. As the heaviest egg in the round up, weighing in at 1400g, it's less about size and more about density here. FIVE different flavoured shells make up this Russian doll-style egg which includes classic caramel, chocolate orange, chai, rose and violet and chocolate mint.

Lindt, Gold Bunny, £39.99

The Lindt gold bunny is as paramount to the Easter landscape as chocolate coins are to Christmas. As you can imagine, once we heard news that the elite chocolatier was introducing a colossal new rabbit to the range, we were sent into a frenzy. The patriarch of the Lindt bunny family is now a beautiful milk bunny weighing 1kg. Can you complete it in one sitting?

Hotel Chocolat, The Ostrich Egg, £75

Quite a hefty addition to the Easter egg range, (both in weight and price) The Ostrich Egg got our attention when Hotel Chocolat declared it ‘the big one'. Appropriately named after an egg that's the size of 24 regular hen eggs, this bad boy is comprised of an extra-thick shell full of rice crispies and crunchy cookies. But wait until you get inside... it's a piñata filled with 27 golden goodies!

Chokablok, Very Berry Eton Bling Egg, £10, available at Tesco

If an Easter egg has ‘bling' in it, we are intrigued. This Belgian white chocolate shell is studded with moreish meringue drops, shiny silver malt balls and freeze-dried strawberry chunks scattered with plump raspberry pieces. Yeah, she deserves the title Queen of Eggs. If all that's not enough, you will be pleased to hear she weighs in at 650g courtesy of the thickest Easter egg shell we have ever seen.

Cadbury, Large Caramel Easter Egg, £7.50

The classic Cadbury Caramel Easter Egg absolutely had to make it into our round up. By far the best value for money, and one that will not disappoint even the most discerning chocolate connoisseurs, this edition of the caramel range includes a large egg weighing over 330g and three delicious bars of molten goodness to keep you going throughout the day.
