5 must-have pots and planters for your summer garden

Our pick of the best new country-style containers this season

Inspired by  National Gardening Week, which runs until 19 April, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite country-style containers to help you bring instant colour to your spring-into-summer garden.

April to September is peak potting season with containers offering the perfect home for a variety of plants from colourful annuals to grasses and herbs. Pick your pot carefully – size matters as plants need to have plenty of room, and so does materials – choose frost-proof terracotta for containers that need to be outside all year round, for example.

We love the The National Trust’s new Inspire range of garden containers from Woodlodge. Available in four elegant shades, they’re beautiful, timeless and this summer’s hot buy for your rural garden.

Each pot is made from frost-proof, glazed and part-glazed terracotta in a choice of charcoal, blue, green and white, decorated with the National Trust oak leaf and inscribed with the words “Beauty, Inspire, Nourish, Grow”. Choose from four sizes, from £5.99 to £39.99.

The statement Domani Lava planter from The Chelsea Gardener is hand made using pressed terracotta to create this fabulous textural surface that you can see above.

The planters are available in various sizes, with prices ranging from £350 to £4,400. This one measures H50x60cm diam and costs £545.

We couldn’t believe how light this new Polystone concrete-effect planter from The Balcony Gardener is! Not to mention how beautiful it looks in a country garden planted with white hydrangeas and ivy as shown here. At just £28, it’s a steal, and measures H18xW18xL47cm.

It was love at first sight when we saw this cute new Bibury Table Top Planter from Garden Trading.
