Livingetc's choice of home offices with extra-special appeal
With more of us working from home, finding the ideal spot to install an office is key. Be warned, though – some studies are just too beautiful to keep your mind on the matter at hand and you may find that your concentration wanders…
1. Head turner
Now, which way should we look? Back towards the kitchen with its beautiful range of built-in cupboards, or up the steps and through the glass doors to the house’s inviting snug? We know we’ve got endless emails to answer, but that cool blue/grey wall and the elegant lines of the sleek desk has got us thinking about a new direction in life. Decisions, decisions…
The wall is painted in Down Pipe estate emulsion by Farrow & Ball. The desk is by Bloomingville from Bodie and Fou. The Caribou chair is by Ochre. The Lantern vase is by Jonathan Adler. This is a Hector dome wall light by Original BTC.
2. Lounge lizard
It’s a fatal mistake to put an Eames Lounge chair anywhere near a room with a view. Obviously, these are far too neat to disturb… Is it lunchtime yet?
shelving is made from unfinished white oak and lacquered panels.
3. Art class
How often do you find yourself staring at a brick wall? Well, if it’s anything like this one, most of the day… Dressed with engaging, ethnic-style art and tucked in neatly as an alcove between two pristine white surfaces, it’s somewhat difficult to glance down at what’s happening on the screen when there are so many other details to admire. And if you want to know exactly how many bricks are in this wall, come on over some time and you can give it a go…
The artwork is by Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Prints of his work are available from worldgallery.co.uk. The Compas Direction desk and Standard chair are both by Jean Prouvé for Vitra at Material Life. For a similar Jieldé lamp, try Holloways of Ludlow.
Now this is what we call a man-cave – humidors filled with the finest Havanas; wines chilled to perfection; a smart, button-upholstered chaise to kick back and take it all in… Oh, and we can even hide the laptop away in its own little cupboard so that nothing, but nothing, disturbs our reverie. Mobiles are to be left outside, if you don’t mind.

5. Screen saver
All work and no play makes Jack and Jill a very dull couple, so banish the computer in favour of a sleek sound system. Crank up the volume and let the ruby red décor and chic furniture transport you to another part of the world. This month, we’re mostly in Asia…
This is Sansui wallpaper by Nina Campbell at Osborne & Little. The large Kusa trestle desk is from Habitat. The Opera chair is by Soane Britain. The BeoPlay A8 speaker dock is from Bang & Olufsen.
