Not scared of being bold, Sara contrasts eyecatching pieces, like this buttoned-leather chaise, with strong stripes in the library. The architraves, doors and skirting boards were painted in black gloss paint to complement the strong décor.

Sara’s cool kitchen, with its decadent wallpaper and sleek marble surfaces, illustrates her eye for design detail. The kitchen is the starting point for the cohesive tonal theme that runs through the house. ‘I wanted it to feel like the same space, whichever room you’re in,’ she says.

The wallpaper is Designers GuildWentworth Kitchens sells units like this, and Kitchen Finesse stocks marble worktops. IKEA sells chunky Lack floating shelves.

Illustrative art is one of Sara’s passions, and it features in various forms, from wallpaper to original artworks. Here, a framed Brigitte Bardot film poster takes pride of place on the wall in the cosy living-cum-dining area of the kitchen.

Floor-to-ceiling windows throw light into the first-floor living room, where strong, modern pieces, such as the retro armchairs and Union Jack cushions, are set off by soft colours.

The armchairs are from Clignancourt market in Paris, and the cushions are from The Cross. The coffee table is made from an ox cart. The torso painting is by Amiee Berman.

Sara’s home office, with its muted colour palette, supports her mantra that boundaries allow the greatest creativity’.

The desk and lamp belonged to Sara’s grandfather. The rug is by Nathalie Lete.

As the floors go up, the colours deepen, culminating in the pewter and purple master bedroom.

Sara and inherited the ornate bed from the previous owners and painted it white to fit in with the pewter and purple décor. La Maison sells similar beds. The wallpaper is from Designers Guild.

The bedroom is pure decadence. Spread over an entire floor, it also incorporates a bathroom with a stunning freestanding bath.

The roll-top bath is from Catchpole & RyeGraham & Green stocks a mirror like this. Real Oak Floors sells large parquet flooring. The wire mannequin is from Portobello market.

Fashion-inspired wallpaper from Cole & Son makes an appearance in this marble-clad cloakroom, giving it a light, girly touch. LSA carries vases like this.

One of Sara’s friends gave her the stylised 1970s wallpaper, which makes a feature of an otherwise simple cloakroom.
