9 no-brainer essentials for any home to have

From extra bedding to radiator keys, there are some home essentials that we just can't do without. Stock up on these necessities and your home (and everyone in it) will thank you for it

Not every household is the same, but there are a few bits and bobs that we all need in our homes. Here are just 9 home essentials that you need to get your hands on...

1. A toolbox

You never know when your might be required to undertake emergency DIY. Always keep small tools and spares handy, such as a bleed key for radiator, screwdriver, fuse wires, insulated pliers, spirit level, adjustable spanner, Stanley knife, claw hammer, hacksaw and a 5m tape measure.

Ok, so this is pretty obvious but is so important to have a well-stocked first aid kit in your home, so you can deal with minor accidents and injuries.

3. Double-up on utensils

The kitchen is considered the heart of the home - it's where all the action happens, so it is imperative that you have enough cutleries and crockery to go round.

4. Extra bedding

Accidents can happen, especially if you have young children, so it is essential that you have enough bedding should this occur. A fifth of us only change our bed linen once a month, but in fact, we should be changing it every week.

5. A spare set of keys

Always losing your keys after a night on the tiles? If you're forever misplacing things, an extra set of keys could be a savior. Remember, only give a spare set to someone you trust.

6. An emergency light source... for when things go bump in the night

Keep candles, matches and a flashlight easily accessible (and charged) for when a blackout occurs.

7. Bins/recycling bins

It is incredible how much waste a household generates. But there are ways to reduce waste either by undertaking some green initiatives such as recycling. Consider having a separate bin for food waste. Home composting is a great way to stop this sort of waste ending up in landfills, and our gardens will really thank us for it.

8. A cosy nook

After a long day at work we all need one place that we can just, well, do absolutely nothing. After all, your home is your sanctuary away from the rest of the world.

9. And most importantly... something you love

This can be a pet, spouse, or even your favourite piece of artwork, a drawing from a family member or a memento from a memorable vacation.
