Show off treasured possessions in this handmade framed shelf
Display your prized pieces in this stylish wall shelf, made from an old cutlery tray and photo frame. It’s easy to adapt to suit any scheme; experiment with different colours and wallpaper samples to find a look you’ll love! Why not have a go with other paint effects, too, such as an ombre finish or striped design? Style at Home show you how to make this upcycled piece in three easy steps…
You will need:
Sandpaper & damp cloth
Bamboo cutlery tray, £8, Tesco
Paintbrush & scissors
White & pink paint (sample pots will do)
Ruler & pencil
Wallpaper samples
PVA glue & strong glue
Wooden frame
Step 1
Lightly sand the sides and section dividers of the cutlery tray and wipe down. Paint with white paint and leave to dry. Apply a second coat.
Step 2
Measure and cut out pieces of wallpaper to fit inside each section of the tray. Paint PVA glue inside each section and stick the wallpaper in place, smoothing out any air bubbles.
Step 3
Paint the front edges of the section dividers and the surface of the wooden photo frame with pink paint. Once dry, fix the frame to the top of the tray with strong glue. Leave to dry.
