With French-style linens big news this season, why not be inspired by our clever project and use tea towels to add rustic character to your home?
Sometimes a tea towel is just too nice to use for the drying up, so dig out your favourite ones and get sewing. You just need to be able to machine stitch in a straight line - easy!

Dark Blue tea towel, £3.99, H&M
Iron
Feather cushion pad (40cm x 30cm) £5, John Lewis

Sewing machine and thread
Unfold and press your tea towel, cutting off the label. Place right side down on a table with your cushion pad on top, towards the bottom edge. Fold up the bottom, then the top edges of your tea towel.
Rearrange until you are happy with the positioning of any text/design and the edges overlap by 7cm.
Pin the two sides together, close to the cushion pad (we used the blue stripes on our tea towel as a guide, pinning 1cm away from these).
Remove the cushion pad (leaving the pins in place) and machine stitch both of the tea towel sides to form a cover.
Press your cover, taking care to give the top and bottom a crisp, neat edge along the fold, then pop in your cushion pad.
