Love Ikea hacks? In this episode of Simple Solutions we show you how to transform a simple Ikea side table into a luxury item of furniture, complete with marble-effect top.
You will need:
Ikea Vittso nest of tables
Drop cloth or newspaper
Spray paint in Copper or Brass (we used Plastikote Flat Copper, Brass)
Pencil
Ruler/tape measure
Marble Sticky back plastic
Soft Cloth/smoother
Scissors
Craft knife
Step 1: Choose a well-ventilated spot, preferably outside, to spray your base. Lay down a drop cloth or plenty of old newspaper to protect surfaces.
Step 2: Spray your frame using short even strokes, building the colour in layers. Allow to dry.
Step 3: Next cover your glass top, first ensuring it’s nice and clean. Measure the surface to be coveredadding an extra 5mm.
Step 4: Cut your sticky back plastic to size, with the 5mm allowance.
Step 5: Gently peel back one of the edges of the plastic an inch or so and stick along the glass topallowing a 5mm overhang. Smooth down with a soft cloth.
Step 6: Continue to peel and smooth the sticky back plastic along the glass top until you havecompletely covered the surface.
Step 7: Flip the covered glass top over and using the craft knife trim the access plastic.
Step 8: Place covered glass top on your spray painted base and voila! A super expensive looking sidetable!
