Hi! I’m Tara King, Style Content Editor across a range of TI Media interiors titles, including Country Homes & Interiors, Ideal Home and Homes & Gardens.
My passion for magazines started when I was about twelve years old. My best friend and I would spend weeks designing our own teen versions. High-quality content included ‘real life’ (ahem, made-up) features, quizzes and problem pages, as well as some rather questionable boy-band posters – all hand-drawn, might I add!
An internship on a fashion magazine, fresh out of university was the start of my official career in journalism. I went on to dabble in the world of crafts on titles including Cardmaking and Papercraft and Craftseller, before landing my dream job as Style Writer for Country Homes & Interiors in 2015. Since then, I’ve been promoted to Style Content Editor, working across a variety of titles, and have been lucky enough to meet and interview some of the most passionate designers, makers and craftspeople, as well as star in a series of online craft videos.
I’ve written about pretty much everything homes-related in my time, but my specialist subjects include trends, shopping, news and ‘cosy’ spaces – think living rooms, snugs and bedrooms. As proud mum to a 16-month-old baby boy, I have an invested interest in stylish children’s rooms, too! I have also recently taken ownership of a ‘Live Life Well’ franchise, meaning my expertise now covers health, mindfulness and wellbeing, as well as ethical and sustainable living.
Three years ago I moved into my own ideal home, a cute little terraced cottage in St Albans, just outside of London. We’ve made it our own, but it’s still a work in progress – we plan to extend upstairs, creating a dream master suite complete with walk in wardrobe. I do love a bold scheme, but I tend to stick to neutral shades on walls and floors – textiles and accessories are much quicker and easier to update if you tire of a look easily, like I do! A childhood spent in Dubai has also inspired an ethnic touch to my interior style.
