Bag a home bargain when you do your weekly shop
Transform your home with bargain buys from the supermarket
As the editor for Style at Home magazine, I like to keep my finger firmly on the pulse of the latest interior trends. This means immersing myself fully with what the top interior brands on the high-street are doing. It boils down to this... I like to be in my element and if that's in the middle of a retail-park sofa store or a high-street soft furnishings shop, then I am happy. What you may not know is that I'm actually happiest when I'm doing my weekly food shop. Numerous times has my partner leant into a chiller cabinet, only to emerge to find me nowhere to be seen! He's been with me long enough now to know that I will have wandered off to check out the homes aisle and will, no doubt, find me squeezing a cushion, or two.
The supermarkets are an absolute treasure trove of homes goodies and all at fantastic prices, too. What I love most is that you can quite literally go in for a tin of beans and come out laden with a new look for your living room, and all without breaking the bank! So, with spring on its way, I thought I'd share my favourite looks from the supermarkets, one for each room of your home.
Farm fresh kitchen
I'm a big lover of the mid-century modern look so was thrilled when I spotted this vibrant yellow and red collection at George Home for Asda. Its solid colour blocking, oversized polka dots and quirky slogans will transform your kitchen into a fun and cheerful space to cook and eat. I especially love the mugs (£2 each), pair of cow salt and pepper shakers (£5 for pair) and, being a big fan of frills, adore the range's cute retro apron (£5), too. Good morning, sunshine!
In bloom bedroom
My garden is so pretty in the springtime, especially when the petals of the magnolia tree begin to fall - I love the blossom and how it dapples the lawn with colour. It's this look that I like to emulate in my bedroom at this time of year, so I was overjoyed when I came across this stunning bedding set (£18 for double) and cushions (£15 each) from Sainsbury's. It exudes a romantic, feminine feel with oversized painterly florals in a delightful pink, purple and turquoise colour combo. It goes fab, too, with the gorgeous mercury glass bottle vase (£10). Just perfect.
Modern romance living room
Carrying my love of florals through to my living room I was delighted to see the new Modern Romance range from Tesco. Pastels are here to stay for spring 2015, but this season's palette is bolder, combined with grey and flashes of black, so this collection works a treat. Dress your sofa in a combination of cushions (£10 each), combine with gorgeous artwork (roses in bottles, £10) and a vase full of fresh flowers and you'll create the perfect look for springtime in no time. And that tea cup and saucer for only £7.50 is a steal... Afternoon tea anyone?
