Ideal Home Verdict

The Dyson Cool AM07 is exactly the kind of fan I want in my home - sleek, stylish, and impressively quiet. I love its bladeless design and the neat magnetic remote. It cools quickly with a smooth, natural airflow thanks to the Air Multiplier technology, and it’s whisper-quiet, even on higher speeds. It’s definitely a bit of an investment, but for me, the build quality and low energy use justify it. I do wish it had more smart features like voice control, but if you want a fan that looks great, works beautifully, and stays discreet, the AM07 is well worth it.

As someone who runs hot at night, especially during the summer months, I rely on a good fan to stay comfortable and sleep well. And with my bedroom windows shut tight most nights (thanks to living near a very lively pub), airflow can be a challenge, so I’m always on the lookout for powerful but quiet cooling solutions.

With that in mind, I put the Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan through its paces, not just to see how it compares to other Dyson devices, but also to find out whether it justifies the premium price tag over more affordable bladeless fans. So, if you’re shopping around for one of the best fans to keep you cool this summer, here’s everything you need to know.

In a nutshell

The Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan blends sleek design with whisper-quiet performance, making it a top contender for anyone searching for a quiet fan to tackle hot, stuffy nights. As a hot sleeper with closed windows due to a noisy pub nearby, I found it impressively effective at delivering a smooth, cooling airflow without disturbing sleep, even at higher fan settings.

It’s easy to set up, thoughtfully designed, and surprisingly economical to run, with smart touches like a magnetic remote and ultra-low maintenance.

While the lack of app or voice control feels like a missed opportunity at this price, the AM07 still delivers powerful whole-room cooling in a slim, stylish package. If you want a fan that’s quiet, powerful, and effortlessly blends into your space, this one’s hard to beat.

How I tested

Joanne Lewsley
Joanne Lewsley

I’m a freelance journalist who regularly reviews household and garden appliances for Ideal Home. I'm also a Customer Advisor for Top Ten Reviews, specialising in vacuums, air purifiers, and cleaning devices. I tested the Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan over a few weeks in my home, trying out all the different settings and assessing its design, performance and energy use, as well as comparing it to other Dyson models and more affordable alternatives.

Unboxing, setting up and first impressions

Unboxing the Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan was refreshingly straightforward. It arrived in a tall white cardboard box with a carry handle, wrapped in a protective plastic film.

Once I'd peeled that off and laid the box on its side, I found the packaging inside was mostly cardboard and recyclable, which is always a win in my book. There is some plastic packaging, however, which may or may not be recyclable depending on your local area.

Right on top was the operating manual and a prepaid envelope to register a 2-year Dyson guarantee. Underneath that was a flat box containing the fan’s ultra-thin base, wrapped in lightweight plastic film. A polystyrene-style film also protected the bladeless loop amplifier and base unit.

Overall, everything was well-packaged, and there were no signs of damage during transit.

There were only four parts to unbox in total: the base, the loop amplifier, the motor unit, and the remote control - so set-up was super quick and fuss-free.

Assembly was also just as simple as I’d hoped. The individual parts that make up the fan have numbered stickers on them, so you match up "1" with "1" and then twist the sections clockwise to click them into place.

The manual warns against twisting the machine at the section covered by tape on the base unit (this is the part where the fan oscillates). However, once everything is aligned and secured, you can remove the tape, and it’s ready to go.

The fan is surprisingly light - I could lift it easily with one hand - and the power cable is a generous 1.8 metres long, which gave me plenty of flexibility on where to plug it in.

One of my favourite details was the tiny magnetic remote, which snaps neatly onto the top of the loop amplifier so you’ll never lose it. It comes with batteries already inside, so there’s no need to go hunting for CR 2032 (button cell) batteries before you start using it.

The bladeless oval loop is distinctive of Dyson’s innovative design, and the clean and uninterrupted shape gives it a premium look and feel. The whole fan is finished in a matte white with accents of silver, and it has a slim, sleek silhouette that’s modern and discreet.

After turning it on, the fan started up on its highest setting (level 10). It gave a mighty whoosh that almost lifted it slightly off the base - a real “wow” moment that showed just how strong the airflow is, although perhaps a clue that the base plate could be a little more sturdy for the uneven wooden flooring in my Victorian terrace.

And while there’s just one button on the front of the fan that powers it on and changes the fan settings, the remote itself offers everything you need: a button to dial the settings up and down, one for oscillation, a power button, and a timer button.

Design

I really like how the Dyson Cool Tower Fan looks in the room – it’s sleek without showing off, and feels more like a design piece than a household appliance. The clean white finish with subtle silver details gives it a calm, modern vibe that doesn’t clash with the rest of the furniture, and because it’s bladeless, there’s nothing bulky or noisy to distract the eye.

What stands out most is how refined it feels. There are no overtly visible buttons or fiddly bits - just smooth curves and thoughtful touches like the remote that magnetically clips to the top. It’s tall but slim, so it tucks neatly into a corner, and you barely notice it’s there until you switch it on.

Even the practical side of the design works hard - no blades means no grill to clean, and it’s light enough to move from room to room. For me, it strikes a really nice balance between luxury and simplicity. It just fits, without trying too hard.

However, be warned. Dyson recommends that you DO NOT carry the fan by the loop amplifier, tempting though it is (I had to resist the urge to do just that!) You should always lift it by the base unit instead.

Ease of use

One of the things I appreciated most was how easy the Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan is to use - there’s no faffing about or fiddling with apps. However, fans of the connected home may be disappointed with the lack of smart or wireless technology.

The remote is curved and magnetised, so it snaps neatly to the top of the fan when you’re not using it (no more hunting behind the sofa). The buttons are simple and clearly labelled, and you can adjust everything - speed, oscillation, sleep timer - with just a couple of taps.

Even in the dark, it’s easy to operate. You don’t need to guess where the controls are, and there’s a subtle display that lights up briefly when you make changes, then fades away again to keep things peaceful.

The timer is a good addition. If you use the Dyson Cool AM07 on a lower level, it’s so quiet it’s easy to forget it’s on. So, if you want to reduce your energy use and prevent the fan from quietly running and using energy when you’re not in the room, the timer is a good failsafe to ensure the fan switches itself off. You can set it to power off at 15-minute intervals for the first hour and up to 9 continuous hours.

My only quibble about the ease of use with the Dyson Cool Fan is that it would be great to have some smart technology incorporated, such as an app to control it from your phone or voice control using Alexa or Google. Given its premium price point, it seems that Dyson is missing an opportunity here.

However, overall, the Dyson Cool AM07 is just one of those products that works straight out of the box - quietly efficient, thoughtfully designed, and low-effort to live with.

Performance

The Dyson Cool Tower Fan genuinely impressed me, especially during a couple of sweltering nights when sleep felt impossible. I tend to run hot overnight, and this fan became a lifesaver. Even on its lower settings, it created a noticeable breeze, but when I dialled it up to the highest level, I could feel cool air sweeping across the room within seconds.

It’s capable of projecting up to 500 litres of air per second, which is a lot more than you’d expect from something so slim and quiet. After adjusting the settings over a few nights, I found the sweet spot to be level 3, which was effective enough to provide relief from humid evenings without being too loud or forceful enough to wake me during the night.

If you sleep with a partner who prefers not to be disturbed by cool air, you can simply turn off the oscillation and direct it towards your side of the bed as well.

I also tested it out in my son’s room. He has a high sleeper bed, so it’s important that cool air can reach him when he’s seven feet in the air. I found that while the fan was too low to reach him when it was on the floor, popping it on top of a cabinet helped the airflow reach him more effectively.

The science behind it sounds complex - Air Multiplier technology, Coanda effect, and Helmholtz silencers - but in practice, it simply means the fan pushes out a smooth, powerful stream of air without any buffeting or rattling. It pulls in up to 38 litres of air per second, then accelerates it through the loop to create a strong, focused airflow that doesn't feel harsh or artificial. Surrounding air is also pulled into the stream, making the effect feel broader and more natural.

The oscillation covers up to 70°, which was more than enough to cool both sides of the bedroom or living room. It kept the air moving evenly, so there were no hotspots or dead zones. I never had to angle it or shuffle it around like you would with a box fan. I just turned it on, set the oscillation, and let it quietly get to work.

Noise levels

One of the standout features of the Dyson Cool AM07 is its exceptional quietness, particularly at lower settings. Thanks to Dyson’s clever motor tech and built-in Helmholtz silencer, it produces more of a gentle whoosh than a distracting hum.

Right up close, the fan measures around 30 decibels (about the same as a whisper or leaves rustling) on its lowest setting and about 50 decibels (similar to the gentle hum of a refrigerator or moderate rainfall) at full power. Step back six feet, and it drops by a few decibels further, to around the level of a quiet library.

Unless you’re dealing with a seriously hot night, you’ll probably be more than comfortable running it on a low to mid-range setting while you sleep.

Maintenance

This is probably one of the easiest fans I’ve ever had to keep clean. The bladeless design of the Dyson Cool means there’s no grill to dust or awkward nooks to clean - just a quick wipe over the smooth surfaces now and then keeps it looking pristine. Most of the time, a soft microfibre cloth is all you need to wipe down the loop amplifier and the base - no tools, no filters, no fuss.

To clean the loop amplifier - the smooth oval section that delivers airflow - use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe down both the inside and outside surfaces gently. This clears off any dust buildup without the need for scrubbing. Avoid using any detergents or polish, though, as Dyson warns these could damage the finish.

At the base, where the fan draws in air, you can use a soft brush (such as a clean paintbrush or small duster) to gently loosen any debris from the vents without pushing it deeper in. I gave mine a quick once-over every week or so, and that was enough to keep it flowing freely.

Importantly, Dyson advises against taking the fan apart beyond what’s shown in the user manual - there’s really no need, and doing so could damage the machine or void the warranty. It also recommends that you always unplug your device and let it cool down for an hour or two before cleaning.

Overall, it’s a low-maintenance fan that fits easily into your cleaning routine - just a quick wipe and gentle brush, and the job is done.

How does it compare to similar models?

The Dyson Cool AM07 doesn’t just look sleeker than its older siblings - it sounds sleeker too. Earlier Dyson towers could be a bit loud and clunky, especially at higher speeds, but the AM07 has been acoustically engineered to hush the hum. Dyson says it’s over 60% quieter than the original AM02 tower fan, and during testing, I really noticed the difference. Even at higher speeds, the noise is more of a gentle whoosh than a distracting hum, thanks to the addition of a Helmholtz silencer cleverly tucked into the base.

I’ve recently tested the Dyson CF1 desktop fan too. While the AM07 is built for full-room cooling with its long-range airflow and smooth 70° oscillation, the CF1 feels more tailored for personal and small-to-medium spaces. Both use Dyson’s Air Multiplier technology to push air quietly and smoothly. However, the AM07 can project up to 500 litres of air per second, while the CF1’s airflow is strong but slightly less powerful at 350 litres of air per second, making it better suited to smaller rooms.

Another fan, recently reviewed by Ideal Home's Content Editor, Lauren, is the Russell Hobbs Bladeless Tower Fan, which could be a more affordable option than the Dyson Cool AM07, at around half the price. It’s a solid choice for a budget-friendly, stylish fan that excels at the basics. It offers decent airflow with 90° oscillation and a remote control, making it easy to use around the home. While it doesn’t match Dyson’s whisper-quiet operation or powerful air projection, it offers good value for money if you want a bladeless fan without splurging on premium tech.

The LEVOIT Classic 36-inch Tower Fan is another no-frills, affordable option that covers the essentials — five-speed settings, 90° oscillation, and remote control. It won’t deliver the same airflow power or quietness as Dyson, but at under £90, it’s a practical pick if you need straightforward cooling on a tight budget.

How does it rate online?

The Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan scores impressively on Amazon UK, boasting a solid 4.2-star rating from over 600 reviewers. Fans consistently praise how quiet it is - especially on lower settings - and many highlight its powerful airflow, which cools effectively without needing to be blasted at full power. One happy owner said, 'This is the second of these fans which I have bought, and it does a great job and is very quiet,' while another summed it up with a simple, 'What can you say apart from Dyson quality. 100% I’d buy another one tomorrow.'

The sleek, minimalist design and premium build also receive plenty of praise, along with excellent customer service from Dyson. However, not every review is glowing. Some feel the price is a bit steep for what you get. A few note that the fan is smaller than they expected or have had minor issues with assembly, like a cracked base.

Overall, though, if you’re after a stylish, quiet, and genuinely effective tower fan - and you don’t mind paying for Dyson’s signature quality - this one ticks most of the boxes for users.

Energy use

The Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan is surprisingly energy-efficient, considering its powerful airflow. Running at just 56 watts on the highest setting, it uses around 10% less power than its predecessor while delivering quieter, more efficient cooling.

Let’s say you use your fan for about eight hours a day; you’re looking at roughly 18.5 kWh a year, which works out to just over £11 annually on a typical UK electricity tariff. That’s way less than many traditional fans, which can cost two or three times as much to run. So, while it’s a premium-priced fan upfront, the Dyson AM07 keeps running costs low, making it a wise choice for long summer evenings or those sticky nights when you need it to work hard without breaking the bank.

Verdict: Should you buy the Dyson Cool AM07 Tower Fan?

If you’re after a tower fan that looks as good as it performs, the Dyson Cool AM07 is a brilliant choice. It’s sleek and modern with that signature bladeless design, making it a stylish addition to any room. The setup is fuss-free, and the magnetic remote is a clever touch that keeps things neat. Best of all, it’s whisper-quiet, even at higher speeds, and pumps out a seriously impressive amount of smooth, natural-feeling airflow thanks to its Air Multiplier technology.

While the price is definitely on the premium side, the Dyson more than makes up for it with low energy use and excellent build quality. It’s ideal if you want a reliable fan that cools quickly, stays discreet, and requires minimal upkeep; however, I’d have liked to see more smart features, such as voice or app control. But if you’re looking for a fuss-free, no-nonsense fan that ticks all the boxes in terms of design, performance, and quiet operation, this one is worth the investment.

That said, if you’re budget conscious and don’t mind a fan that’s a bit less refined or powerful, there are cheaper options out there which cover the basics well but don’t match the Dyson’s whisper-quiet smoothness or air projection. But if you want a fan that just works beautifully, quietly, and looks great doing it, the AM07 won’t disappoint.
