Distinct groups of furniture divide this large space into separate zones. Wood and crushed velvet in pastel and neutral tones have been used here for a relaxed, lavish look.

3/12 Dining room

The owners' mantra for mixing classic and contemporary furniture and furnishings runs throughout the house. Here, a classic solid wood dining table marries beautifully with the modern accessories, such as the floor lamp.

4/12 Kitchen

Having teamed soft grey kitchen units with black granite worktops, this country kitchen has a modern edge. The pale wood flooring keeps the room light, while the black of the worktop is reflected onto the bar stools.

The grey paint is from Marston & Langinger.

5/12 Open-plan kitchen

The owners were impressed with the proportions within the house, allowing them to fit a breakfast room next door to the kitchen. The archway gives the two rooms a sense of division.

6/12 Breakfast room

Mirrors placed at either end of this open-plan room add to the illusion of space. The use of symmetry and classic lines creates an ordered look, while the white linen keeps it relaxed.

The table is from Top Furniture and the chairs from IKEA.

7/12 Hallway stairs

The dark wood of the banister, mirrored on the console table, sets the tone for a grand entrance. The soft blue walls and pale floor soften the wood.

8/12 Home office snug

Tucked away in a small snug is the antique-style home office. In the absence of a window with a view, these paintings provide a pleasing alternative.

9/12 Main bedroom

The sophisticated decor in the bedroom would not look out of place in a luxury hotel. Mixing textures adds interest to the palette of charcoal and neutrals.

John Lewis sells a similar headboard.

10/12 Main bedroom en suite

The owners built the twin basin vanity unit in the main bedroom's en suite so it would fit exactly with what they wanted. The mirror doubles the room in size.

11/12 En suite bath

The marble around the top of the bath reflects the vanity unit opposite. Lights dotted around the wall create a romantic look and add warmth to the scheme.

The wall lights are from Porta Romana, and mosaic tiles from Capitol Ceramics.

12/12 Guest bedroom

All the guest bedrooms follow a similar look; neutral walls with white bedlinen and soft grey furnishings.
