Step inside a well-planned country kitchen

A narrow width, angled walls and partially sloping ceiling make the layout of this kitchen a real challenge.

A narrow width, angled walls and partially sloping ceiling make the layout of this kitchen a real challenge. A floor-to-ceiling cabinet, which has been finished in a warm buttermilk paint shade from Dulux, hides the fridge-freezer and a larder unit..

A chunky oak beam spanning the room has been left unpainted to complement the rooms natural country-style elements. Smart timber-edged polished granite work surfaces complement the warm pippy oak cabinetry to complete the warm and inviting feel.

A neat wine rack forms part of a modern pippy oak dresser unit, which has been finished with dainty pewter and crackle-effect porcelain handles to give it a smart update.

The surrounding drawers provide ample storage for cutlery and kitchen utensils, while the shelves above allow pretty kitchenalia to be kept on display.

To create a working triangle, the sink was repositioned opposite the cooker, making the most out of the compact kitchen space. The washing machine and dishwasher have been integrated either side, with a handy rail for tea towels in between.

Built specifically to accommodate the sloping ceiling, a shelf unit nestles in a corner, making the most of the area. Its tongue-and-groove back is painted in a cool blue from Farrow & Ball, and adds to the country-style feel of this kitchen.

At the centre of this kitchen is a traditional-style cream range cooker, which provides ample oven space for the family's entertaining needs. Rustic touches, such as a ceramic tagine and clay fish add to the country feel.

To keep the worktops clear, a tulipwood drawer insert has been added with customised sections to accommodate knives. Located just steps away from the range cooker, it allows the family cook to use the preparation space ergonomically - a must-have feature in a compact kitchen.

A crook-style pewter tap with bell handle levers suits the traditional flavour of this country-style kicthen as does the ceramic belfast sink from Franke.
