FCentral to this statement-making Mark Wilkinson Furniture design is a large flowing island made from American Black walnut and tulipwood, painted in Winter Thaw from the Mark Wilkinson colour range. Light streams in through windows dressed with curtains from Nobilis..
1/7 Hand-painted kitchen
2/7 Wall unit
A triple-shelf wall unit in between two sash windows is perfect for displaying little knick-knacks, as well as accessories for the dining table. To allow the painted cabinetry to breathe, the walls were painted in a light colour. For similar, try Pointing by Farrow & Ball.
3/7 Taps
A Franke Triflow filtered water tap with matching rinse is teamed with a Quooker tap that delivers boiling water.
4/7 Oven bank
Beyond the long-grain maple chopping board is a three-quarter height housing that incorporates a Miele multifunction oven, combination oven, steam oven, warming drawer and coffee machine.
5/7 Hob
The sleek gas-on-glass, five-burner hob sits below a curvy glass extractor fan. Wide cutlery drawers and roomy pan storage underneath the cooking zone are fitted with bar handles in walnut and stainless steel.
6/7 Wine rack
One end of the curving island, topped with shiny Black Angola granite, has been left open and made into a wine rack. The limestone floor tiles came from InterDesign and were chosen for their seamless blend with the cream cabinetry.
7/7 Breakfast bar
An egg-shaped glass breakfast bar is overlaid onto an oval end cupboard, giving the island another level and helping to bounce light around the room. The top of the cabinet is edged with a fine layer of American Black walnut and inlaid with a band of polished nickel and a centrepiece of Russian burr walnut to add interest to the design.
