One end of the curving island, topped with shiny Black Angola granite, has been left open and made into a wine rack. The limestone floor tiles came from InterDesign (opens in new tab) and were chosen for their seamless blend with the cream cabinetry.

An egg-shaped glass breakfast bar is overlaid onto an oval end cupboard, giving the island another level and helping to bounce light around the room. The top of the cabinet is edged with a fine layer of American Black walnut and inlaid with a band of polished nickel and a centrepiece of Russian burr walnut to add interest to the design.
