Russell Brand buys Laurence Olivier's LA pad for £1.4 million while ex Katy Perry has problems shifting their former marital mansion

The outrageous comedian has shelled out over a million pounds for an extravagant mansion, while Katy Perry struggles to sell their martial home a few miles down the road

His career is going from strength to strength, he's rumoured to be dating socialite Jemima Khan and now Russell Brand has bagged himself a gorgeous Hollywood mansion that once belonged to Laurence Olivier.

Will the scraggy-haired comedian's luck ever run out?

Reports of his latest house purchase won't come as welcome news to his former wife Katy Perry who is struggling to sell their marital home, also located in the Hollywood Hills.

Miss Perry has been forced to slash the price on their former mansion from £4 million to £3.7 million. But months later, she still hasn't found a buyer for the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom house.

Brand, on the other hand, is busy planning the interiors for his sprawling £1.4 million property, built in 1926 and once owned by the late, great actor Laurence Olivier.

Designed by noted architect Roy Selden Price, the exterior of the house is reminiscent of an English country estate, complete with arched windows, a huge panelled front door and acres of land.

The property has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a large open-plan kitchen and a movie screening room. The plush interiors and period details were all restored by the architect.

Modern interiors, high curved ceilings and arched doors give the house a unique feel.

We wonder how long it will take for Russell to invite his London friends over to his plush batchelor pad.

Meanwhile, his ex wife Katy is no closer to finding a buyer for their former home together.

She has, however managed to find the time to purchase an extravagant £7 million party pad nearby - probably with the hope that her new love interest John Mayer will move in!
