Ali Lovett

Hello, I’m Ali and I’ve been the Houses Editor here at Ideal Home for the past two years. I’ve been obsessed with interiors and colour ever since I painted my childhood bedroom a vivid shade of teal (let’s blame Changing Rooms for that one).

I’ve worked for interior magazines for the last 14 years: writing features, interviewing homeowners and styling shoots. I’m now in charge of finding all the most inspiring and special homes to appear in Ideal Home magazine - which basically means I get to nosey round other people’s beautiful homes all day long. How lucky am I?!

I’m obsessed with renovations and clever decorating ideas and have recently completed my own renovation of a run-down Edwardian property. Unfortunately all the original features had been stripped out so I’ve been busy sourcing second-hand finds and updating it for modern family life. Now it’s finished, we rent it out as a location house for shoots and TV filming too - everyone from Gogglebox and Carpetright to I’m a Celeb and George at Asda have been here - it’s fun to see how other people use our space and always nice to see it on TV.

Where's your happy place?
Sunbury Antiques Market. It’s the best place to find unique furniture and I come away feeling totally overwhelmed but really inspired.

What's your home addiction?
Drawing floor plans! I’m constantly rethinking how my house works and flows, how I could add extra storage, move doorways or create a new flowerbed. Don’t get me started on the moodboards either…

What is your next home project?
A loft extension, we're hoping to add two kids rooms up there - I'm thinking lots of cute nooks and fun decorating ideas.
