I’m Steph Durrant, Ideal Home and Style at Home’s Senior Features Editor. I’ve been part of Future’s Homes Content Team since December 2016 and have previously written for HomeStyle, Homemaker and Sew magazine, among others.
Much as I can’t get enough of interiors, my true passion is crafting and upcycling. Give me a pile of fabric or a tin of paint and I’m happy as Larry! My little house is chock-full of quilts sewn in colourful Liberty fabrics, upcycled furniture and if you sit still long enough, you will be decoupaged!
I love nothing more than rummaging at vintage fairs and boot-sales for vintage and preloved finds that I can give a new home to. Favourites so far are my 1950s dressing table and the old treadle Singer sewing machine I snapped up for £20. While I can’t resist a vintage find, I am a magpie when it comes to the highstreet, too. I adore a rifle around Homesense, especially for artificial plants as real ones in my care always seem to reach an untimely death.
Surprisingly (to my friends) I’m a bit of a DIY whiz. Living alone I soon realised that such skills were essential, so I got myself an electric drill and tool kit, and now I don’t need to find a man every time I want to put a shelf or picture frame up. Here’s to independent women!
