There was even a law once in place that declared a man had to buy 12 pairs of gloves for his lady if he were to deny her proposition, to save her the embarrassment of a ring-less hand in public. 1. Lake Windermere
At 10.5 miles long, Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake in England. Situated in the heart of the Lake District and surrounded by rolling hills, this is a glorious setting for a proposal. Head out on to the jetty to watch the sunset, go boating or amble along the water's edge, the choice is yours...
2. Blickling Woods
The Blickling Estate in Norfolk is owned by The National Trust and boasts over 950 acres of woodland, perfect for a romantic stroll with your loved one. Keep an eye out for wild deer as you wander through the grounds, and there is also the chance to stay overnight in The Tower, built in 1770 and shrouded in history.
3. Crickhowell Bridge
Crickhowell is a pretty little village on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The 16th century stone bridge over the River Usk offers beautiful views of the Welsh valleys and an unusual skyline including ‘Table Mountain'.
4. Soho Farmhouse
Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire offers the ultimate getaway weekend for a posh proposal. The idyllic resort is peppered with a host of cabins and cottages, ranging from studios to a large seven-bedroom farmhouse. Arundel is a picturesque town steeped in history, home to both a castle and cathedral visible from miles away.
