Why you can trust Ideal Home
Our REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress review puts the brand's premium hybrid mattress through its paces to see how it compares to the best mattresses Ideal Home has tested so far.
Quick review
The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite is the brand's top of the range hybrid mattress, combining a memory foam and foam comfort layer with two layers of pocket springs. On the king size mattress that means 2000 12.5cm encapsulated pocket springs and 3000 2.5cm encapsulated mini pocket springs.
These layers add up to a premium price tag, so I was happy to find the 600 Lux Elite had a much more luxurious feel to it than the brand's more budget-friendly REM-Fit Hybrid Pocket 1000 mattress that I'd previously been testing.
As a side sleeper, I found the 600 Lux Elite has just the right mix of soft squishy cushioning and sturdy support for me. Plus, there was great motion isolation, and decent edge support and breathability.
I’ve been sleeping on this mattress for four weeks alongside my husband and/or toddler, and there've been no complaints from them either! Read on for our full verdict.
REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress review
Overall we consider ten factors when we test mattresses. We then use these to score each mattress out of 5. The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid mattress scored an impressive 4.5 out of 5. Read on to find out why.

1. Comfort
The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid mattress is constructed from a memory foam top layer, a layer of PU foam, a layer of more supportive memory foam, and then those two layers of large and mini pocket springs.
In practical terms, I found this combination of layers was really rather dreamy with the mattress feeling simultaneously squishy yet supportive. I'd previously been sleeping on the brand's most affordable hybrid mattress, the REM-Fit Hybrid Pocket 1000, and noticed the step-up in quality within just a few nights.
Interestingly, REM-Fit has rated the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress as a medium-firm mattress, with a tension of 7.5 out of 10 (10 being at the firmest end of the scale). The REM-Fit Hybrid Pocket 1000 mattress (which the brand rates a 7) and REM-Fit 400 Hybrid Mattress (rated a 6), both of which I'd previously tested, are actually rated as being less firm than this. However, I found both of these mattresses to feel a lot firmer than the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid mattress in practice.
As side sleepers with larger frames, my husband and I both appreciated that the softer top layer on the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress allowed our shoulders and hips to sink into the top of the mattress. This was much welcomed compared to the firmer mattresses we've tested.
Of course, there are individual factors that can affect how firm you find a mattress, the main ones being your weight and build. Whilst REM-Fit advises that all its mattresses are designed to support sleepers weighing between 9 and 20 stone, where you're holding tension in your body and where you carry your weight can also make a difference to how comfortable you find a mattress.
2. Responsiveness
Memory foam mattresses can sometimes lack responsiveness. That's beacuse memory foam is designed to cradle your body and offer a cushioned 'hug', but sometimes the impression our bodies create in the foam can then make it harder to change position and roll over.
The 600 Lux Elite Hybrid tackles this by adding a 2.5cm PU foam layer underneath the uppermost 5cm deep memory foam layer. This is designed to push back a little to prevent you settling too far 'into' the mattress.
I found it worked well and I didn't at any point feel like I was stuck in the mattress and having to wait for the memory foam to reposition around me when I rolled over. This is more common on the all-foam Tempur Sensation mattress and Emma Original mattress we tested.
No doubt, the pocket spring support under the foam also helps, as I found that gave the mattress a great bit of bounce that's often lacking in all-foam mattresses.
3. Motion isolation
Not only do I share a bed with my husband, but we're often also joined by our toddler, so good motion isolation is important to us.
We've tested the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid for four weeks now, and at no point during the night did I wake because my husband had rolled over. In fact, I barely noticed that he was there.
No doubt that's partly because of that movement dampening memory foam layer, but I imagine the individually encapsulated springs also help to minimise motion transfer.
As a couple of tall, well-built testers sailing close to the upper weight limit of this mattress (up to 20 stone per sleeper), we didn't roll into the centre of the mattress at any point either thanks to its zoned support.
4. Temperature regulation
As a hot (and often bothered) sleeper who is circa seven months pregnant, comfort and breathability was at the top of my agenda when testing, and thankfully I can vouch for the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid's effectiveness in both regards.
Standard memory foam mattresses can be prone to causing overheating because the vistoelastic foam is too dense to allow for air flow. Good air circulation in a mattress is what allows body heat and humidity to dissipate so that our body can regulate its temperature whilst we're asleep.
REM-Fit addresses this problem by using open-cell memory foam in the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid's construction. This open structure allows more space for air to circulate so tends to offer a cooler sleep.
In a bid to further enhance the temperature regulation of the mattress, the brand use a knitted mattress cover which it says is 'thermos-regulating'. The label says it's made from 100% polyester rather than natural materials (that also tend to be naturally breathable), but, its knitted texture is likely to allow a little extra airflow.
Overall, this mattress perhaps doesn't have the same temperature regulating properties as a mattress filled with natural materials – such as the wool-packed Hypnos Pillow Top Select mattress or Woolroom Hebridean 3000 mattress – or a synthetic mattress like the Simba Hybrid Pro (that infuses its open-cell memory foam with graphite to draw heat away from the body, and tops this with a layer of wool), but I certainly didn't overheat at any point whilst sleeping on the 600 Lux Elite.
5. Edge support
The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress is designed with high density foam walls to prevent roll-off and improve the longevity of the mattress.
When I sat on the edge of the bed I found that the mattress barely sunk and I had no problem launching myself into a standing position. I could also sleep as close as I wanted to the edge without any dipping sensation, instead there was an even tension across the entire surface of the mattress.
I sat my 10kg kettle bell weight as close as I could to the edge of the mattress to see at what point the tension started to dip, and as you can see from the photograph, it got pretty close before starting to become unstable. I measured that the mattress edge only dipped by 2cm with my 10kg weight perched on the cusp.
6. Sleep trial
As of writing, REM-Fit has just upgraded its sleep trial to 200 nights. Terms and conditions apply, but in simple terms this means you can sleep on the mattress in your own home for this time period, test out whether it suits you, and get a refund if you're not happy with its comfort levels.
This isn’t quite as long as the 365 night sleep trial currently offered by Nectar, but means REM-Fit's sleep trial is now on a par with the 200 nights offered by Simba, Emma and Brook + Wilde.
7. Durability and ease of care
The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid is a one-sided mattress, meaning you can only sleep on the side that has the memory foam top layer. As such, it needs to be rotated rather than flipped to ensure even wear and tear.
Unfortunately, rotation is made trickier due to the lack of side handles on this mattress. There are handles on the underneath surface, but due to the mattress's size and weight this placement makes accessing them tricky.
Potentially a one-sided mattress could lack some longevity compared to a high quality two-sided mattress. I've only been sleeping on the Lux Elite Hybrid mattress for a month so it's too early for me to assess durability yet, but on reading reviews from customers who've owned this mattress for longer, it seems REM-Fit's customer satisfaction scores are fairly good.
As of writing, REM-Fit scores 4.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot, and whilst there are some customers who note specific issues with their mattresses, overall 74% of reviewers gave the brand a five star rating.
One extra feature worth mentioning is the removable cover on the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid which can be unzipped and machine washed at 30-degrees. Whilst you could (and should!) add one of the best mattress protectors to any mattress that doesn't have this feature, it's a nice extra detail to help keep a mattress clean – especially if you're concerned about how to clean a memory foam mattress, which can be a little trickier.
8. Delivery
The entire delivery process of the REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress was as good as it could have been. I received a text message from the courier company Rhenus shortly after the order had been placed, and this gave me a selection of delivery times and dates to choose from. Then, on the day of delivery, I received a phone call from the delivery drivers to advise me of the delivery time frame.
Instead of a mattress-in-a-box, the 600 Lux Elite mattress arrived rolled and vacuum-packed in a thick plastic bag. Apparently, REM-Fit have stopped using the outer cardboard box in a bid to reduce packaging.
As of writing, the brand offers free delivery to most postcodes, which involves a two-person delivery to the room of your choice. This is really useful as I definitely would have struggled to move this mattress on my own, let alone haul it up the stairs, and it's something not all mattress retailers offer. For instance, the popular online mattress retailer Emma only delivers its mattresses to your doorstep.
However, what REM-Fit doesn't offer is 'white glove' delivery. This is offered by retailers such as Simba, and means you can pay extra for the mattress to be unpacked and put into position on your bed for you. Whilst this won't be something everyone needs, if you're less able-bodied, it can make or break the stress of delivery day.
Personally, I struggled with wrestling the mattress out of its outer red courier bag and the clear plastic bag inside that. I ended up roping in my husband to take over because I simply couldn't get it to budge. It's a factor worth bearing in mind if you know you'll struggle to manage the mattress unpacking solo.
Once unpacked, the mattress took a few hours to inflate, but was soon up to its full height of 25cm and ready for sleeping on. And, thankfully, I didn't notice any strong off-gassing odours from the mattress after unpacking it – a common feature of foam and memory foam mattresses.
9. Environmental impact
As opposed to mattresses made predominantly from natural materials, synthetic mattresses can have particular environmental concerns. Not least because many of the materials used in the manufacture of synthetic mattresses are non-renewable petrochemicals that don't biodegrade easily and can be hard to recycle.
Thankfully some manufacturers, such as Simba, are becoming more aware of their environmental impact. In recent years, Simba has reduced the amount of non-recyclable materials used in its mattress construction, utilised more recycled materials, implemented a mattress recycling scheme to combat the amount of mattresses going to landfill, and become a certified B Corporation which verifies it meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.
REM-Fit is less clear on any efforts to reduce its environmental impact, at least based on the information we could find on its website, and we couldn't see that the REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid mattress utilised any recycled materials which is a shame.
The brand does offer removal of your old mattress if you pay extra at checkout, but we couldn't find any details on whether these mattresses are then recycled. Although the brand does state that those mattresses returned in saleable condition via its sleep trial are either refurbished (steam cleaned, maintained and if required fitted with a brand-new REM-Fit mattress cover) and resold via various channels, or donated to the British Heart Foundation for resale by the charity.
10. Value for money
The REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid mattress is the brand's premium hybrid mattress. As of writing, it costs £1299 for the double, compared to REM-Fit's most affordable hybrid mattress, the REM-Fit Hybrid Pocket 1000, which retails at £699.
That's nearly twice the price, although I would say that, for me, that extra investment is worth it, as I found the 600 Lux Elite Hybrid to offer a far more comfortable sleep experience.
In relation to other brands, the REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid is perhaps most comparable to the Emma Luxe Cooling mattress which at full price is £1049 for a double, and Simba's Hybrid Original which is now £869 for a double.
At full price, that means we still think Simba's Hybrid Original is one of the best value memory foam hybrid mattresses you can buy. However, I've regularly seen the 600 Lux Elite heavily discounted on the brand's website with up to 55% off. This obviously reduces its price considerably, and could make it the best value mattress for you depending on when you shop.

How I tested
I’m Jennifer (Jen), the editor of Top Ten Reviews and a mattress-testing expert who helps the Ideal Home team find the best-in-class products for our readers. For this review, I tested the REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress in a king size on a traditional slatted bed base. Here are my sleep stats:
Sleep position: side sleeper (who is also currently around seven months pregnant)
Tension preference: medium firm
Sleep problems: hot sleeper, shoulder tension
During our mattress testing process I assessed ten factors that the Ideal Home team deems vital to any mattress purchase.
I assessed the mattress for comfort, responsiveness, motion isolation, temperature regulation, and edge support through at home testing. This means that I slept on the mattress for a minimum of two weeks before writing my review. In this case I actually slept on the REM-Fit 600 Lux Elite Hybrid for four weeks, along with my husband and occasionally our toddler. I'm also seven months pregnant, so good comfort and support were key!
I also took into consideration ease of care, the delivery process, any sleep trials available, value for money, environmental impact, and, where possible, third-party feedback from other verified owners before writing my review and giving this mattress a star rating.
