Have a very homemade Christmas
Meander through the beautiful water garden complete with sparkling ponds and frozen statues to Swanley Grange, where little ones can pen a letter to Santa Claus in the twinkling post office, before making a glittery snowflake to hang on your Christmas tree.

Start your day by making a Christmas wreath, chocolate Yule Log or a miniature rhododendron Christmas tree to take home. After you’ve finished, head out on a walk through the park, with sweeping views from Sheringham Park all the way down to the North Norfolk coast. Keep your eyes open for the smoke plumes of a steam train passing through the woodland.

Decorate a Christmas bauble, make a stocking or create a reindeer sock puppet at Beningbrough Hall throughout the festive season. Head to the baroque mansion, which has been transformed into a winter wonderland, and get inspired by the richly decorated interiors.

This has something for all of the family. Make tree decorations, gift bags and cards to take home, or create hand-printed wrapping paper. According to William Wordsworth, the Lake District is “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”, so make sure you leave enough time to bundle up and go for a walk.

This beautifully decorated former Tudor palace is the place to go for a proper country-style Christmas day out. Make sure your celebrations go with a bang by constructing your own crackers. Head to the Cracker Factory and customise them with toys, sweets, a hat and a joke.

Sitting within the prehistoric stone circles, head to one of these workshops in the traditional craft of felt. Let little ones create a felt Christmas pudding or Dorset Buttons to decorate your Christmas tree. You’ll also be able to see skilled craftspeople knitting, spinning and felting.
