As Ideal Home's Sleep Editor, I thought I'd seen every overnight hosting solution there was.

I've tested the best sofa beds on the market, tried out the best chair beds, and rounded up plenty of stylish daybeds to sleep friends and family when they come to stay.

However, I think there's a new furniture trend that's about to take interiors by storm, and it's being dubbed the 'floor sofa'.

What is a floor sofa?

But first up, what is a floor sofa? Well, it's a low-to-the-ground seating solution that tends to be without feet and sits directly on the floor. A bit like a sofa crossed with a giant bean bag, if you like.

The cult classic Ligne Roset Togo is the most iconic example. Designed in the 1970's this all-foam sofa was revolutionary in its time; its informal, slouchy build offering a trendsetting alternative to the formal straight-backed seating the furniture world was filled with at the time.

And if the newly launched autumn/winter furniture collections are anything to go by, it seems this modern retro look is having a comeback.

Plus, this time, floor sofas aren't just for seating. Instead, they're giving the humble sofa bed a run for its money by turning slouchy seating into a full-on reclined sleep surface.

These are six of the best options on the high street right now, and I predict this look is going to get even bigger as we head towards 2027.

If you only need to sleep one guest at a time, Dunelm's Jackson floor sofa bed is one of the most affordable I've come across. Plus, that velvet upholstery makes it look a lot more luxe than its price tag might suggest.

Habitat Clic Clac Sofa Bed

Habitat's new Bollo floor sofa bed is a much larger affair. It seats three, and when you want to turn it into a crash pad, the backrest folds down flat to offer a small double-bed-sized sleeping area.

Urban Outfitters

Theo Orange Velvet Xl Sofa Bed

Urban Outfitters also offers a generously padded and low-to-the-ground floor sofa that transforms into an overnight sleeping space.

KHOY

Sofa Bed - Double (2-Seater)

KHOY offers a contemporary and space-saving take on the floor sofa. The lozenge-shaped seating unzips and folds into two to create a generous double sleeping space while maintaining a compact footprint.

Dunelm

Jolie Chenille Quilted Cloud Corner Sofa Bed

Dunelm's new Jolie Quilted Cloud Corner Sofa Bed is one of the largest floor sofa beds I've seen. This option features a chaise section for putting your feet up, and hidden storage under the main seating.

John Lewis & Partners

Innovation Living Cozy Pad Sofa Bed

And then there's Innovation Living's uber-stylish Cozy Pad Sofa Bed. This floor sofa features two upholstered 'mattresses' which are stacked to form the seating, but can be used side by side for a double sleeping area.

If you're looking for relaxed multifunctional seating, I think this new floor sofa bed trend is one to watch.
