Fear not the threat of cold, dark days and embrace the beauty of autumn. Check out our favourite things about this time of year
Yes it’s now October and it will start to get colder and darker, but autumn is actually one of the nicest times of the year. Think cosy nights in curled up by a warm fire and, obviously, what more reason do you need to buy a hot chocolate for the journey into work?
1. Hot chocolate
Cold commutes mean it’s perfecly acceptable to have hot chocolate en route to the office or while cosying up in front of the telly with the cat. Just don’t forget the marshmallows. And the cream. And the chocolate sprinkles too.
2. Cosy throws and cushions
Don’t forget to make your bedroom warm and snuggly. Layer up soft throws and faux-fux cushions for a dreamy space you won’t want to leave. Treat yourself to some cosy pyjamas as well and you’ll be set up for the colder months.
3. Make chutney
If you’ve been experimenting in the garden this summer and are now left with more fruit and veg than a market stall, turn it into chutney. Even better, they make fab Christmas gifts. Pop in a pretty jar with a label and give as a present with some delicous cheese.
Create the ultimate chill out atmosphere with some scented tealights grouped together on a sideboard or coffee table. Then take some time for yourself and get stuck into a box set on Netflix.
Slow cookers are a life line at this time of year. Put your favourite casserole ingredients in one before you head off to work and be welcomed home by a yum warming dinner.
We don’t all have the luxury of a beautiful period fireplace in our living rooms, but nothing quite beats curling up in front of a fireplace. Whether you have a roaring open fire or a modern log burner, get snuggled up with a good book.
