This year's winner of the ‘Shed of the Year' competition will blow you away!
The official winner of the 2016 ‘Shed of the Year‘ competition has been announced.
The winning shed was revealed on the finale of Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. And it certainly didn’t disappoint.
Meet ‘West Wing’, the eccentric eco shed in Berkshire, which beat seven other sheds to claim the crown, literally.
A record-breaking 2,800 people entered their sheds into the competition, but West Wing was a clear winner, with over 12,000 votes to his name.
After much deliberation between the competition’s judges, West Wing’s owner, Kevin Herbert, was able to claim his title.
West Wing breezed through the first two categories of the competition, going head to head with seven other weird and wonderful garden sheds, such as ‘The Chapel’ and the ‘Shed of Dreams’.
But what’s so special about West Wing?
Well, for a start the shed is made from 90% recycled material, hence its eco-friendly status. And what’s more, it contains a hidden room behind a secret bookcase.
The shed has been a labor of love for over eight years and consists of a loft, a sleeping area, a workshop, and, of course, the hidden room. The family-friendly shed is the perfect warm and cosy hideaway at the bottom of the garden. The kids love it!
Kevin Herbert said: “We were up against some tough competition this year as the sheds were more eccentric and impressive than ever before. So I am so honored and proud that my shed at the bottom of the garden was chosen as the winner of Shed of the Year 2016.
“I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who voted for West Wing – the eight years that it took to build has really paid off!”
And it certainly has, as Kevin was able to take home £1,000 courtesy of sponsors Cuprinol, as well as £100 of Cuprinol products, a winner’s plaque and a giant crown.
